the portuguese frigates NRP Comandante João Belo (F480) and NRP Comandante Sacadura Cabral (F483) will be transferred to the Uruguayan Navy until end of September 2007.

These 2 ships will be replaced by the 2 M-type F833 Van Nes and F834 Van Galen in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Unfortunately I only have the Navy Info in portuguese….

i think the contract, everything included, was valued at 250 million euro.

For Portugal, the purchase of the Van Nes (F833) and Van Galen (F834) was valued at 240 million Euro, officially

Severnaya Verf launches Stoiky corvette for Russian Navy
    11.13.2006 13:46
St. Petersburg’s Severnaya Verf shipyard laid the keel Friday of the Stoiky corvette for Russia’s Navy.

The Stoiky will be the fourth corvette of the Project 20380 series, after the Steregushchy, the Soobrazitelny and the Boiky, designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau and built at the shipyard.

Deputy Navy Commander Mikhail Zakharenko, who took part in the keel-laying ceremony, said that the first ship built in the series, the Steregushchy corvette, shipped out Friday for testing.

Navy Commander Admiral Vladimir Masorin said in May at the Steregushchy launch ceremony that the event marked the beginning of a new stage in the development of Russian military shipbuilding.

“Russia must maintain its Navy,” he said, adding that Russia planned to launch a new ship in each design series every year starting in 2006, and that construction of new combat ships will ensure security at sea and global stability.

“Ships of this series [project 20380] will also help ensure Russia’s energy security,” Masorin said.

Russia has designated energy security its number one priority during its tenure this year as chairman of the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations.

Masorin said the corvettes will protect oil and gas transportation routes, especially in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.

The Boiky and the Soobrazitelny, ships of the same series, are still being constructed at the shipyard.

The Stoiky corvette has a displacement of 2,000 metric tons, a maximum speed of 27 knots, a crew of 100 and is equipped with stealth technology.

    van nes

a picture of the VAN NES (F833) with the Portuguese Flag hoisted in the mast.

    (from http://www.dutchfleet.net forum)

I assume it was taken last 1st of November when the Portuguese MoD visited the ship after signing the contract for the Portuguese Navy.

Can anyone tell me if the Van Nes will be decommissioned soon or will she still sail under the Dutch Flag for some more time, before starting preparations for the transfer to the Portuguese Navy?

    Thanks in advance,
    Regards.

Portugal signed contract for the purchase of VAN NES and VAN GALEN

    NIEUWS

    PORTUGAL KOOPT TWEE NEDERLANDSE FREGATTEN

In the first half of the 80s (1983?-84?, I cannot precise) during a NATO Exercise, the Portuguese Submarine “NRP Barracuda”(S-164), Daphne-type, (currently the sole submarine in service with the PN , until the commissioning of the 2 new U-209PN being built in Germany takes place, in 2010 and 2011), also “sanked” the US Carrier USS Einsenhower (CVN-69)

According to reports of that time, the Admiral in command of the CVN-69 was relieved from duty due to this action of the small Portuguese Submarine.

    click on Karel Doorman photo:

The design of the Karel Doorman class reflects the increasing priority that the Royal Netherlands Navy gives to survivability. Designed to reduce the Radar, Under Water Noise, Infra-Red and magnetic signatures the ships have an extensive NBCD arrangement. The hull design is based on extensive research into seakeeping and propulsion, giving high sustained speed in seaway and a wide weather window for helicopter operation. Equipped with a rudder roll stabilising system.Highly automated in machinery control and C³I systems the class has a characteristically low manning level. International interest in the M-frigates as well as changes in the Royal netherlands Navy prompted the sale of two frigates each to Chile, Belgium and Portugal. New names are:

    F827 Leopold 1 Belgium
    F829 Louise Marie Belgium
    F830 Almirante Riveros Chile
    F832 Almirante Blanco Encalada Chile
    F833 Unknown Portugal
    F834 Unknown Portugal
