A note about retired QEAF Hawker Hunter QA11 ( formerly N219 Dutch Air Force )

This aircraft has been sat by the side of the runway at Doha for many years now but just recently it appears to have been moved.

The old Hunter, which was abandoned after a landing incident years ago, was parked near to some kind of fire fighting training aid at the end of runway 34.
Recently the area has been taken over by construction vehicles and as can be seen from the video, the Hunter is gone.

There’s a lovely picture of the one and only Qatari T.79 QA13 in the book Hunters by Ray Braybrook. It’s a bit naughty but I’ll see if I can scan it for you.

By the way, do you have a photo of any of the Qatari FGA.78s. There were only three of them but I’m particularly interested in QA12 as I am currently restoring the cockpit section – see my avatar!

Today i stumbled upon a very RARE photo of QA13 on display at the air base in Doha.

It is on the website for the National Air and Space Museum in Paris. The thread topic was photos of aircraft on pylons etc and there is just one photo there from Qatar. I was amazed when i saw it.

Apart from the other photo above of QA13 in the hangar i have seen no others. There are short film clips though, which are good to view. Very short in duration and obviously from the 1970’s and early 1980’s in Qatar.

I believe this photo is dated 1991.

This is G-AKDN seen in 1986 at the Farnborough International Airshow.

Must be one of the oldest around and have one of the nicest schemes in this old photo too, simple colours but just perfect and fresh looking.

hi,

I dont know about names but… as i remember the person in the cockpit is a mechanic who was working in the hangar there at RAE Farnborough.

I did have another close photo showing him sat in the cockpit but i gave it to him.

Until i viewed your thread and a link attached i believed i had a bought a unique image of Singapore on EBAY.

Oh well.

Herer it is… its quite a good scan from the photo which looks and feels old and is about 4″ x 6″.

Thanks John for the info updates, i will amend the entry on Flickr, which is where the pics are.
Thanks Richard and Papa Lima for your comments.

On MaritimeQuest there are some simply stunning images of HMS Eagle during and before WWII, have you seen that site?

I was amazed at how nice some of the shots are and some unusual angles too… not the normal stuff.

In addition to the images on the main page they have some EXTRA photos from peoples collections and for HMS Eagle there are two people, Phil Heydon and Able Seaman Arthur Holroyd RN with ‘ photo collections ‘ contributions.

Within that section can be found some pics that look like they were taken at the same time as my one… ie with the trailing ship in the same place.

So, if i have completely confused you… go to MaritimeQuest, click on ‘ Photo Galleries ‘, click ‘ Warships ‘, click on ‘ Eagle ‘ and go to the bottom of the page and click ‘ photo collections ‘. You will find them there.

I just found this…

Copyright duration in photographs subject to Crown Copyright

• Photographs taken before 1 June 1957 whether published or unpublished
-copyright expires 50 years from the end of the year in which the
photograph was taken

• Photographs taken after 1 June 1957 and published before 1 August
1989 – copyright expires 50 years from the end of the year in which the
photograph was first published

• Photographs taken between 1 June 1957 and 1 August 1989 but not
published before 1 August 1989 –copyright expires 31 December 2039

I conclude then that anything taken in 1957 and 1958 that i have, that was published 50 years ago or more is ok and is public domain.

I had a look at your website and the content is fresh and simply wonderful.

hi,

I have a small number of images from HMS Ark Royal R09 from 1957/1958 with aircraft in them. They have an official look about them as opposed to being a crew members personal pics but the original image is over 50 years old so there is no crown copyright infringement. I also have some ovely large official images of HMS Albion with fantastic deck scenes taken from a helicopter showing Royal Marines eqpt and helicopters etc but they have the CROWN COPYRIGHT stamp on the back dated 1962 and from what i gather they are copyrighted for 50 years.

You may have seen these but anyhow here is the Ark Royal …

Does anybody know whats the very latest on what will become of the Royal Navy Sea Hawk WV798 at Lasham?

I have a photo from 25 years ago and a more recent one taken a week or so ago.
