Great news… only 10 minute walk away for me! Should bring back memories of the shows I attended as a lad back in the mid to late 1970’s!
…and many thanks and best Christmas wishes from me and members of the LEMB too you and the rest of the team Matthais… I don’t get here as often as I’d like, but this thread is one I always keep an eye on, so thanks for the regular updates 🙂

Not so sure about the significance of the roundels and tail flash, but the Stkz GM+AI originally belonged to the Fi156V-3, WNr.0603 which was formerly D-IGQE…

Looks like more footage of Michael Rinners Bf109G-6 project?

I think you underestimate the seriousness of legal action, don’t forget it protects the injured party, how many times have we heard people getting let off because evidence was disseminated in public?
I don’t doubt that for one moment Graham… but in this instance, the original question concerning the faking of post-war grips to resemble wartime Luftwaffe grips is one that should (a) be of interest to members of the UK premier historical monthly magazine/forum and (b) as a warning to others who wish to spend their hard earned cash on something that isn’t all its supposed to be and what to look for when thinking of buying such items.

Perhaps not Clint, as you may have seen on our own LEMB thread dedicated to DG200, not if the colour profile seen in an article titled “‘Le Cirque Volant de Duxford Le No 1426 Flight” by Phil Butler in Aero Journal No.24 (April/May 2002) is to be believed :diablo:

Just a thought… can not the offending posts be removed from the old thread so that the main points of the original discussion be available for all to see? We’ve seen other posts edited, so why not this one?
Far from trying to teach the legal eagles at Key on how to do things, but surely it would it be useful for a magazine of FlyPast’s standing to be associated with the efforts, not only of members here, but with the exposure via the BBC, with trying to stamp out this trade? I doubt it’ll completely stop the unsuspecting getting ripped off, but surely its better than letting these dubious sellers get away with it…?

According to page 22 of “Captured Me109’s” by J.Jackiewicz & M.Wawrzynski [Kecay, 2007] the small white disc on the rudder contained the Kitzbühler mountain goat associated with 1./JG51 unit emblem, similar to the emblem seen here but without the blue left/right edges and obviously on a white disc…

I’d love to investigate this further, but I am afraid that link to LEMB just takes me to a ‘welcome’ page
You have to be a member to view LEMB threads Moggy… but here is the link to the old FlyPast thread to which I referred in my previous post:
http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?p=1810268&posted=1#post1810268
..and yes Dr Strangelove, I’m sure there was also discussion on old MiG grips being faked to look like German grips…

I was trying to find my thread on grips…..cannot
Was it the thread that included possible fake Me163 control grips Tony? If it was, we had a direct link to the thread from the LEMB, but when I click on it, I get the “Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator” error…

Having taken time to download, read and try to digest the reports findings I have to say that unlike many of the post-accident threads which appear here (and elsewhere for that matter) I have found many of the knowledgeable comments here of great interest. Having said that, the fact that a life was lost has made me feel slightly uncomfortable with my need to learn more about why this tragic accident took place. My sphere of aviation interest is pre-jet age, but having worked as aircrew out of Dux, I have always been keen to understand more about what goes into keeping these wonderful old types airworthy…
As for the pilots failings, its clearly evident to me that the blame should be spread evenly from the very top to the very bottom. Hindsight in a wonderful thing and I just hope that lessons are learnt by the whole warbird community and we are not sat here discussing another tragic loss of life again…

If indeed it was a type belonging to AufklGr123, take a look at the Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmeldungen listings at the foot of this page and as you’ll see, no Focke-Wulf twins are listed. More likely to perhaps be one of the Ju88/Ju188 variants…?

To add weight to what CeBro posted above, in part one of their excellent two issue article “Testing the Enemy’s Arrow” [Aeroplane, March 2002] Phillippe Ricco and Phillippe Couderchon do indeed make mention that when testing the ejector seat mechanism in the Do335M-14, when the seat itself was reinstalled, the team involved found that the leather cloth headrest was not only stuffed with horse hair but with human hair too. As a result, the padding was replaced.
