Seems to be a common problem… and many of the answers linked below could be construed as old wives tales…

If Google is anything to go by, baking soda and cat litter seems to be popular suggestions, see links for full details…

Reproduced from “Zerstorer, The Messerschmitt 110 and its Units in 1940” by J.Vasco & P.D.Cornwell [JAC, 1995]

    09.09.40 – Fw.Eduard Ostermunchner & Gefr.Werner Zimmermann (both killed) of 9./ZG76 – Bf110C, WNr.3207 coded 2N+EP* – 100% loss – Rammed by F/O Boulton of 310 Squadron.

    * it is unlikely that two aircraft from the same Staffel would carry the same fuselage code on the same day. This is likely to be an entry error in Luftwaffe records.

The following is reproduced from “War Prizes” by P.Butler [Midland, 1994]:

The French forces in Indo-China after the Japanese surrender in 1945 utilised a number of Japanese aircraft. Details of these are incomplete, but known information [in 1994] is as follows:

    • Aichi E13A1 “Jake” – six used by Escadrille 8S of the Aeronavale
    • Mitsubishi Ki21-I “Sally” – two used by GT I/34
    • Mitsubishi Ki46-II “Dinah” – one used by GT I/34 and one crashed
    • Mitsubishi Ki51 “Sonia”
    • Nakajima or Showa L2D2 “Tabby” (licence-built Douglas DC3) – seven used by GT I/34
    • Nakajima Ki43 Oscar – of which twelve at least were in use, 1945-46 by GC I/7 and GC II/7
    • Nakajima A6M2 “Rufe” – one in use in 1946 by Escadrille 8S of the Aeronavale
    • Tachikawa Ki54 “Hickory” – four in use, 1946-48 by SLAc99

Also, in the link provided in post #1 above (from top to bottom) the following photos are also included in the same volume:

    1 – “Zeke” BI-12 in ATAIU-SEA markings on a flight from Tebrau
2 – The radar equipped Mitsubishi G4M “Betty” bomber coded FI-II of the IJN, flying from Tebrau in Malaya in ATAIU-SEA markings
    3 – ?
    4 – ?
5 – An air-to-air photo of two Mitsubishi J2M “Jacks”, BI-01 and BI-02, flying near Tebrau in 1946.

Very nice shot of the Bv222… and looks like it was VP501, the Bv222C-012, WNr.330052 which ended its days at Calshot where it was scrapped between April & June 1947 [Source: “War Prizes” by P.Butler, Midland 1994]

I do wish you’d pack it in Brian 😀 Every time you post these fantastic sets of images, I find myself looking around to see what deals I can find on your camera kit. I have some extra funds coming my way in the New Year so may have to take the plunge and see what the sales bring…

Anyway, thanks for sharing these images with us and keep up the good work 🙂
