Thanks James, thought it was just me. Although it appears now to be working, does it appear to anybody else to only picking up threads from after the recent outage?

“War Prizes” lists three former Luftwaffe aiframes which were selected for evaluation at Orfordness. An unidentified Ar234B, an unidentified Me262 (both transferred from by road from Schleswig) and also an unidentified He162A. There is apparently some confusion as to whether the He162 actually arrived, it appears that a He162A (not allocated an AirMin number) was intended to be transferred but never did and no records were found to confirm transfer. Both the Ar234B and Me262 were used in weapons firing trials, but their ultimate fate is unknown…

Hi Twin Otter
I’ve heard tell that some of the captured airframes spent some time at RAF Fulbeck, Lincs – can anyone confirm that story?
According to the same source as my previous post, it appears that the Air Historical Branch (AHB) captured aircraft spent time at Fulbeck from 1958 onwards before being transferred to Biggin Hill. This included the He111H-20, Bf109G-2/trop “Black 6” Fw190F-8/U1, Ju87D-5 and Fiat CR42 currently on display at the RAF Museum and the Me410A-1 and Fi156C-7 on display at Cosford.

…and for the record, from page 53 of the superb source quoted by Dave (War Prizes, by Phil Butler, published by Midland in 1994) the external exhibition of Luftwaffe types included:
Of those, only the top half Fw190A of the Mistel combination can be found hanging from the roof on the Imperial War Museum at Lambeth whilst the piloted Fi103/V-1 is currently under restoration in Germany for the Lashenden Air Warefare Museum…

Or even join the LEMB and visit our extensive Captive Luftwaffe sub-forums. A blatant bit of self advertising I know, but we do cover most of the types pictured in one form or another… ๐

Many thanks indeed Tony, if anybody can narrow it down to which year and monthly issues it could have been, or even better, can provide scans, that would be fantastic ๐

It looks like they’ve been having database/server issues… Navigations seems OK now, but is it just me or is the search facility not working?

On the subject of the German Aircraft Exhibition at Farnborough from 29th October to 9th November 1945, does anybody remember a possible two-edition magazine article on this exhibition and can point me to when and which magazines they appeared in?

However, to class my views as being those of an โignorant minorityโ especially when it is painfully clear that many have not even read the content and context of my posts – and then have others jump on the topic in a manner that suggests I am not even entitled to my opinions, I find completely unhelpful to sensible, sane debate.
While your on the subject of reading members posts then Graham, you’ll note that at no point did your name get mentioned in my first post here. Its you and others that are taking my general comment to heart about the ridiculous negativity for this project being shown here by a minority. Rather like your “mob rule” and “spewing forth vitriol “comments as they too may offend more here than you planned. As for being a member of a clique, that’s news to me ๐
I have nothing but admiration for your work in the field of aviation, whether it be in the written form or in restoration matters at Old Warden. However, in respect to this project, in my opinion your comments are wrong and suitable credit should be given to these guys for what they have achieved. I’m sure that if Geoffrey de Havilland were alive today, he’d be the first to congratulate these guys, not deride their efforts…

Jeez, to call Graham Simons part of an “ignorant minority” is really pushing it, from what I’ve seen of his postings and background.
Just because of a members publishing background, that doesn’t exclude them from posting ridiculous comments from time to time. Now that you mention Graham’s comments, if you think they weren’t posted for maximum effect and to garner a response, then your sadly mistaken. You’ve only got to see his subsequent post to see that. Mob rule? When one doesn’t agree with a published author, tis mob rule don’t you know!!! :diablo:
The bottom line is that he is not alone in this thread, I don’t agree with any of the petty criticisms posted here especially as has been proven by Nige’s post above, comments like theirs will encourage members not to post for fear of using the wrong word or phrase.
But hey, they are entitled to their comments, I value them, but don’t agree with them and that is what good honest discussion is all about… ๐

Don’t let this ignorant minority get to you Nige. Not only do I think that whatever the description, this is still a fantastic achievement, I’m just as pleased that you posted the link in the first place. I was completely unaware of the project and that is what forums like this are here for… ๐

There was a comment on the Facebook start-up clip that the mixture may well have been a touch rich, hence the smoke and miss-firing. I’m sure one of our engine experts will chime in with a good reason though…
