I agree with Dean, when I woke up today I’d never heard of this bird before, let alone seen one in flight, so thanks for the effort OldFart…
Whilst Googling the type, I came across this interesting link which may prove of interest to those like me with inquisitive minds 🙂
Does anybody know what became of F-BHOO?

The Bf109G mock-up sounds quite reasonable to me too Daz… I’m hoping that the distinctive JG2 emblem and Gruppen Kommandeur chevron markings might jog one of our older members grey matter and they may recognise it from film work or static display? Also, I’m no helicopter expert, but perhaps somebody can ID the one in the background of photo #2 and then a possible location?

Yep, I’d noticed the lack of an intake in the same position too! I’m looking at a photo of a HS-404 cannon equipped HA-1112K.1L in flight in “Les Messerchmitt Espagnols” [Avions Hors Serie No.5, 1997] and these pronounced intakes are clearly visible on the lower port and starboard lower chin! Definitely one to sleep on…

Thanks for the input thus far Daz… its the shape of chin and air intake set back that are confusing the bu**er out of me Daz. I agree that there is some resemblance to the HA-1112K.1L, like this example, but even compared to that, the chin cowling is certainly different on the example in the first post… very intriguing! 🙂

Fantastic footage… many thanks for the pointer! 🙂
It appears that one of the Spitfire’s in the clip was a Mk.Vc coded DU-U and appears to have the serial AR511. If good old Google is to be believed, this example served with No.312 (Czechoslovak) Sq. RAF based at Harrowbeer in September 1942 or Churchstanton in Spring 1943…

Reproduced from our good friend Wikipedia quoting “Spitfire Women of World War II” by Giles Whittell [Harper Perennial, 2007] as its source:
“In Spring 1943 a flight of three Spitfires was being delivered by ATA pilots, including one woman, Ann Wood, from their Castle Bromwich factory to Whitchurch. As it was low tide, the lead pilot Johnnie Jordan decided to fly under the bridge. Some time later, Ann Wood repeated this underflying – without realising that this time it was high tide and there was 30 ft less headroom.[4] This was not the only instance of pilots buzzing the bridge; it was seemingly so common at one time that a local policeman was tasked with recording serial numbers”

Many thanks Matt… shame to emblem isn’t visible on that footage. If anybody has access to any period shots of this emblem, please feel free to post them. We have had this ex-eBay image posted on the LEMB but we are still unable to get a nice clear shot to determine exactly what the emblem consisted of…
The search continues 🙂

I’ll probably get my knuckles rapped for resurrecting an old thread… but now that we’re two years down the line, can anybody provide me with photos of this Fw190 on display at the Herdla Museum, especially of the 12./JG5 emblem?
Before anybody posts them, I’ve seen all the post-recovery shots of this bird (and associated profiles) but none of her since she was cleaned up. All I’ve been able to find of her on display is this, so any pointers greatly appreciated… 🙂
