Thanks for the great photos Duggy. Looks very much like the footage would have come from then and could be the very aircraft.

Tim – must have been quite something to be jumping in and out of such different types. I’m sure I’m not the only one here who would like to hear more if you would care to tell Sir.

Is this not the group who are building the Sopwith Camel replica for Shuttleworth Collection?

    Fokker Eindecker (assume replica)

Looked like it was leaving Old Warden yesterday late afternoon about 5.30pm. Heading south and then east into a glorious calm spring evening.:)

Not sure who owns this, but it would sit very well with the other Shuttleworth types e.g. as a static exhibit on display days.

If I recall, there is a fine bronze bust and short epitaph of Neil Williams at Old Warden, alongside a nice model of this very aircraft (AR501).

I would echo this – I have really enjoyed seeing these unusal aircraft at Old Warden. Looking forward to seeing the Storch once the engine problems are all sorted.

Real shame that she won’t make it. I was at DX today – Sally B did just a single circuit about 5pm.

Hope she’s back to full serviceability soon.

    Dear all,

thank you all so much for your help and information. I’m so pleased to learn more about Dick Guthrie. Sadly seems his DFC was posthumous.

I will endeavour to learn more locally and any further information (or where to find it) would be most gratefully received.

    Stampe,

Thanks for taking the time to post such an interesting insight into the transfer of Peter Holloway’s machines to Old Warden. Of course it is a mouth-watering collection of aircraft and I for one am really looking forward to seeing some of these in action soon. Over the years there have been a few aircraft moving on which have been firm favourites (LVG, Arrow Active, Mew Gull) and these new residents will certainly bring a new flavour.

Maybe I’m the only one who was left with the wrong impression reading Prop-Swing that other aircraft were being moved around (or mothballed) to accommodate new arrivals. This clearly isn’t the case so thanks for clearing that up.

It really is an eye-opener when one gets more of an understanding about the relationship between private owners and the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden. I had not appreciated for example that the Storch had its own engineer funded by Peter Holloway. In truth, I’m amazed at his generosity and the fact that he is going out of his way to let enthusiasts be around his aircraft when they fly rather than keep them secreted away somewhere for his own pleasure. This seems like a very strong partnership which is in the best interests of the collection. I agree that it may be that additional funds and equipment will likely benefit aircraft owned by the collection.

The future looks bright for Old Warden with Peter’s collection, the new apprentice scheme, runway plans and the prospect of much needed additional hangar space.:)

These sure add to the collection and provide an income to the colection to allow them to carry out further work to the collections A/C. They are not talking away resources from the collections A/C mearly using the resources that they have to earn an income to support the collection, im sure that none of its for free.

If that’s the case then sounds like everyone is a winner & my fears unfounded 🙂 . Perhaps the Prentice will resurface once the Collection has a little more space.

Can’t believe a year has passed already…I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news.

RIP Ray Hanna, you leave many people with some great memories.
