Glenn – The Hurricane has been temporarily on hold while we finished the Spitfire. But, now that the Spit has flown, we will get back on with the Hurri!
We hope that she will be ready for Christmas time.
I will try to post a photo when i can.
BTW, thanks for the photos of her noseart, they were a great help!

Neilly – Thanks again, i will try to post some flying photos, when i get some! Flew her once today, but unfortunately she is grounded for a while. One of the u/c legs disappeared up the wheel well on landing! No damage, just need to revise the retract systems.
As for your mossie… wow. 1/5th scale! now that is a BIG model! What are you going to power it with? 2x zenoah 62ccs?! We should definately meet up for some formation flying!

    Thanks Neilly,
Its the GRP fuselage 1/6th scale version of his award winning design. Its the most exact scale Spitfire IX out there and has won many awards so i am told.
And the best bit… She is a dream to fly! As of yesterday, i am now a Spitfire Pilot, woohoo! 😀 😀 😀

Which model have you got neilly?

    Thanks Der,
I used that exact method for the panel chips! Luckily, the Mick Reeves fibre glass fuselage comes with panel line impressions from the mould. This helped to align the masking tape and apply some humbrol silver enamel where necessary,

I must say, it did look a bit superficial at first, but when the weathering was applied, it toned down the brightness of the silver somewhat.

So, Der, do you have a MR Spitfire aswell?

I think, we should wait and see.
Wait until an official press announcement from OFMC i reckon.

I do know that the La 9 is only 50% owned by Ray Hanna.
The aircraft was registered ZK-LIX to Hanna-Hogan Ltd – a new 50:50 partnership set up by Ray Hanna of the OFMC and Garth Hogan of Pioneer Aero Restorations to operate the aircraft.

    I hope she stays!
I was told by an OFMC bod that she is staying. I think they like us speculating though.

you are quite correct Ant, i have edited my post with a link to their site also!

As far as survivors go, another aviation magazine covered Lavochkin’s radial series in one of their recent editions quite well i might add, and featured at the end of the rport is how many LA aircraft exist – not many! let alone airworthy (only OFMC’s one!)

    well it looks faster anyway!:D

    official stats:
    La9 – 690km/h
    F8F – 720km/h

    Not much in it though!

I think i prefer the La9 though, cos it looks meaner!:p

    total rumour!

As far as i understand this was a ****-up by the IWM. It is indeed the p40 and corsair that are leaving for NZ. The Spit and La9 are definately staying in the UK for the forseeable future as is the Mustang. Their Yak3 is also being crated for NZ to be restored with Pioneer Aero (who restored the La 9) and when comlpeted will hopefully return to the UK.

As for the performance of the La 9, Ray says it is an absolute dream to fly, but quite tricky on the ground!
Apparently among the pilots there is a constant half-joking rumour that they’d like to take her to Reno as stock and wipe the floor!

I finally got to see this beauty at the autumn show, and all i can say is WWWWWOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!
    I am in LOVE!

She really sounds like nothing else and is definately faster than a bearcat!

    mines done.:)

commented on the fact its a surviving BofB airfield that is still alive and we should keep it as a living memorial to ‘the few’ at least.
We don’t want it to go down the same route as so many others, like the great West Malling. It was my local airfield, living in Maidstone. I miss that place and its unique atmosphere so much. It was a big part of my childhood and it makes me quite emotional thinking about how it was and what it is now. 😡

    We MUST save NW!!!!

    b4 its too late:( 🙁
