I’d be keen to see any photos of your current and previous projects as well if you’d like to share them Simon.

    try this link http://www.air-scene-uk.com/hangar/f3s/f2s/zd938.htm

Just out of interest, a good few F3’s were rebuilt i early 90’s using centre/rear sections from retired F2’s, why was this?

Sounds to me like the words “General Flying” are a massive grey area and could be open to all kinds of interpretation.
Who’d have thought, you live near an Airfield and there’s noise from jets! Whatever next. These clowns would win the lottery jackpot and complain about having to go and pick up the cheque.
It’s pretty safe to say that we know where most of the Airfields in this country are now, be they active or disused. With that in mind, how hard can it be to buy a place that’s nowhere near one. I suspect that if these people did move however, they would soon find something else to moan about.

    rant over.

Thanx Guys for the kind messages…Dinny, do post more…it can be rewarding.

The RAF Hunter incident was 8 hunters returning to West Raynham found their base shrouded in sea mist diverted to Marham, recalled and low on fuel 6 ejected and 2 bellied in by the runway…total airborne time 40mins

Sorry to divert your thread slightly Rocketeer, your site is evidence of an epic labour of love! However, my curiosity gets the better of me and I have to ask, did all 8 Aircrew survive the Hunter incident?

I wish they would take better care of her

Some of the dirt might be due to the fact that I took the Photo with a camera phone, 1.3 mp resolution is never going to deliver great photos. But she is in dire need of a repaint or even a clean. I’m sure the H&S idiots would not be happy about people climbing on the wings to scrub off all the green gunk though. Ruin all our fun they do, we’ll not be allowed to make MEK cannons next……………..:diablo:

I just spotted on Anglia News that today the RAF are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the tornado up at Marham, I suppose that makes it a vintage type from now on then.
What puzzles me is that the only event listed on the Marham website is a flypast by 3 a/c over the officers mess at 7:55 PM, bit of a wierd time considering it will be dark, does anyone have any more info.

Was only a 2 ship with an airborne spare, they went vertical over the mess in reheat and separated whilst climbing. Even though it was dark, it looked quite good.

there appears to be a simulator in the restoration shed at elvington (cockpit section) its got wires cables coming out of it and a conventional door handle, looks like it had been painted anti flash white and it looks very much like a victor to me

I believe you’re right Landraver. There is a restoration of some kind underway, but I’m not sure if they intend to get it powered up or just leave it as a static exhibit. Is there anyone that knows any more? Ollie perhaps?

    My hatred of the government

I did sign this petition in time. However, I have just received the following link from the Downing Street site.

    http://www.pm.gov.uk/output/Page10967.asp

For those can’t access it for what ever reason, here’s the Downing street reply.

    northolt – epetition reply

    12 February 2007

    We received a petition asking:

“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Stop the demolition of historic Battle of Britain architecture at RAF Northolt.”

    * Read the petition
    * Petitions home page

    Read the Government’s response

The Government takes its obligations to preserving the heritage of the defence estate very seriously. However, the need to preserve must be balanced against the need to fulfil our defence requirements, both now and in the future.

Project MOD Estates London (MoDEL) seeks to implement the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Estate Strategy by combining operations from a number of sites across Greater London at RAF Northolt. It represents a significant rationalisation of the defence estate in Greater London, consolidating the facilities occupied by UK forces onto a modern, integrated ‘anchor site’. This will generate a number of benefits in terms of reduced running costs, improved efficiency, consolidated resources and improvement to quality of life for the current and future generations of MOD personnel.

In investing an initial £180 million in the development of RAF Northolt the MOD developed a masterplan, informed by the English Heritage’s Aviation Thematic Review. This masterplan sought to deliver a fit for purpose site which improved the quality of service personnel accommodation while preserving and recording heritage elements. At only 190 hectares the site is a relatively small airfield and the area capable of development is constrained by town and country planning limitations. There are also issues relating to airfield operations and security restrictions.

Difficult decisions had to be made. Both the A type hanger (hanger 6), including the associated Operational ready room, and the former Operations Room (building 27), were not recommended for listing as part of the Aviation Thematic review and are subsequently to be demolished after an agreed scheme of archaeological recording. These buildings will make way for the new offices and parade square for the Queen’s Colour Squadron plus a facility to house the Central Band of the RAF and Headquarters Music Service.

Significantly the masterplan also includes enhancement to the setting of certain buildings such as the current Station HQ, (building 28) and the Officers’ Mess which is being sympathetically enlarged and its function retained in keeping with its Grade II listed status.

Through this MOD intends to strike the right balance between preserving the most important elements of our Nation’s past whilst meeting the needs of our armed forces in the future.

Sounds to me like the decision had already been made way before the petition was released.

    Thanks for not caring.

As for performance, I’ve not got a clue, but for me from a personal point of view, it would be the Meteor, but then again, my love of Britain may have tainted my veiw just a little……..

    Another few………

Marham has Victor XH673 as previously stated, also I think Tornado GR1 ZA400 (might be a few numbers out there, possibly 405 or 406) and is soon to be joined by Canberra XH169 which is currently hidden away within the camp somehwere.

Waddo has of course Vulcan XM607 by the A15 and had a Phantom outside 23 Sqn’s building last time i was there.

Akrotiri had a Lightning and a whirlwind back in 2004

Conningsby had a Phantom and a Tornado F2/F3? last time i was there.

Lossiemouth has a Tornado GR1 dressed up as a GR4

That’s all i’ve got for now!
