Makes me sad to see relics waiting for the inevitable. The Harrier looks complete (ish) as do some of the Wessex’. Would be good to hear that they donated parts for the greater good! Good find on the photos Peter!

Probably destined to become Ground Instructional airframes of some shape or form would be my guess.

Only managed to get the last 45 seconds of this as it was finishing. Dammit! Don’t suppose anyone knows if and when it’ll be repeated? Or Did someone manage to get it recorded to DVD/VHS????

Aviation on BBC1 is a bonus though!!!

Good question and a tough one to call!

This had made me think long and hard about which of the 3 I’d choose, and JDK, good skill on the wildcard of the Sperrin! Am I right in thinking none exist and haven’t done for a good few years? Anyhoo after much deliberation I have reached the colclusion of the Vulcan, tough one though!!

Heard a good story from our Rects Controller a few weeks ago, he is an ex Victor man and he was telling us about how the French used to get upset when we wanted to transit our fighters over their air space, the sloution was a couple of Victors in close formation, which created a big enough radar return to smuggle a couple of fighters each directly underneath them, ATC were none the wiser! Nice one lads!

A couple of pictures I took follow.

I am based at RAF Marham where the last Canberra Sqn (39) is also. I can tell you there is not a canberra on the fire dump at the moment! 3 GR1 tornados are abandoned near it, but no canberra!

Is the first short a F.3 or GR model? Can’t see a refueling probe on the side

As stated it’s a GR4. The probe is a removable asset. Always quite funny to watch a Pilot clamber into the cockpit of a probeless aircraft to be strapped in, then place his bone dome to the side where the probe should be….. This is followed by a bang as it impacts the floor, sometimes smashing the visor too. This is then followed by swearing from the aircrew, laughing from us lineys and the Nav getting on the radio to the Squipper to get a spare brought out. Brilliant!

Great shots! As for XV being tooled up, ‘TY’ belongs to IX(B) Sqn at the moment. This is due to the GR4 trainer fleet being rotated around the various Sqn’s to prevent all of the XV jets from reaching the end of their fatigue lives before the GR4 fleet is retired.

To the best of my knowledge It was to see the effect that firing the gun had on the air going into the engine intake, if it turned out that if was disturbed too much, they might have had to fit the gun, but not electrically connect it. What use would a fighter jet be that carried a gun it was not able to use! Eurofighter anyone??

The current owner of 903’s Nose section posts on this site, I’m sure he will be able to elaborate on this matter.

    Binbrook

There was a mock tower built at RAF Binbrook for the film, I suspect it has been demilished now though.

Also found both Southend’s, Manchester’s and Blackpool’s Vulcans. I have spotted about 16 Vulcans.

I would love to see Newark, Flixton, Cosford and Fleet Air Arm Museums from the air but they are all not clear yet.

I went on a Vulcan hunt and could only find the 8 below, and the blackpool one is no longer with us! what others did you find? Enlighten me!!

The last I remember was that the Vulcan was on the inventory of a Flight Sergant Brian Jones who resided in 3 Hanger @ Waddo. This information was correct as of late 2001, sorry, I’ve not got a contact number, that’s the best I can do. Either try to find him or get in contact with Waddo’s Comunity Relations Officer (CRO). Try ringing 01522 727838, he should be able to help.
