Yep… that’s the P 1143.7 Ul’yanovsk all right… the CVN the Soviets were going to build as a follow-on to Kuznetsov.

Ul’yanovsk is just a big Kuznetsov ! The defensive and offensive ship armament is the same. Shown on the diagram are eight Kashtan mounts, each capable of carrying 8 SA-N-11 Missiles each and there are cells of SA-N-9 next to every kashtan mount. The same as on Kuznetsov.
If Sevmash could produce such a carrier is interesting, given the problems they have had with Admiral Gorshkov. Gorshkov is just a rebuild and not from scratch, so yes they will have learnt from it, but given the spiralling costs of her, will the russians pay for three big carriers.
Can any one help with this question
I am trying to find out where the Royal Navy Historic Flight collection is kept at RNAS Yeovilton.
Hi
Go onto google earth or flashearth, i think they are in the hanger due east of the end of runway 04 (Southern side of airfield)

Some Great picutres there, I remeber going to to Binbrook to see some rallying about 5 years ago and most of the runways where still intact at that time if I recall correcty, may have been longer.
Is it possible to take alook around the station and if so whos permission would I need?
Hi, the main admin/technical site is a trading estate, so you dont need permission, just drive on. The hangers all belong to various concerns so access is not allowed, unless asked. 11 Sqn’s hanger is a furniture store (Classic furniture), so if u fancy some new home stuff that shouldnt be a drama.
The pan is all fenced off and the airfield/QRA hanger are on private property and belong to the farm owner.
You can view the aircraft present from behind the wire. All are well protected for their own good.

Due to the current lightning threads I was just wondering what their former home was looking like in 2009, Any one got any current photos and what state it is in, what the future may hold?
Hi Big Barf here,
Resident of Brookenby(RAF Binbrook), the main camp is now a business park, holding light industry, fish processing, car repairs etc. The old SHQ is in excellent condition and the grass is always well maintained around the whole site. Many buildings are in disrepair and are showing signs of neglect.
On the airfield side No 1 hanger, has just received a facelift and 5 Sqn’s markings are showing very brightly. 11 sqn hanger is now a furniture warehouse and the old LTF hanger is used for storage. The main pan is full of surplus ex MOD vehicles and GSE.
Aircraft that excist on site !
XR724 Lightning F6 – LPG – Main pan – all covered and protected.
XS457 Lightning T5 – Nose section – Belonging to LINCAIR- Adjacent to XR724
Fuselage section of either ZF590 or ZF595 – same location
ZE697 Sea Harrier FA2 – Guards the hanger behind Hanger 1.
I have pictures of all the above if you want them.

With all the talk of twilight engine runs and Q sheds at Bruntingthorpe, I thought that today I’d take a look around Binbrook! I hope they are of some interest to you.
The airfield
I know it’s been said many times before, but it does seem such a shame that 724 is sat out there in the wet. Just out of interest, does anyone know who owns the lightning that’s laying in bits behind her?
Hi Big Barf here a resident of Brookenby ( You can nearly see my house in Pic 1 BTW)
Th Lightning in bits belongs to Lincair and moved here recently from Grainthorpe. I believe the only reason why XR724 is out in the cold is due to insurance for her to be in a hanger. The hanger behind her ( the Old LTF hanger is in bits ) and has loads of garbage around. Had a look inside last time i did one of my weekly checks !

Hi
Pictures you need should be in the December 2008 edition of Air Forces Monthly. The article was:-
FORCE REPORT: CHAD AIR FORCE
Chad at Large. AFM reports on the Force Aérienne Tchadienne (FAT-Chad Air Force), with photographs by Stephan de Bruijn
Hope that helps.
