I thinks its already in the stages of feasability/concept development, its a supersonic business jet (SSBJ), named “The Aerion”, powered by P&W JT8D-219 engines, i think it does have a $100Mill price tag.

I have to say, I find this new jet very exciting. Looks pretty feasable and could be a huge success. Anyone know when it may be due to come out, if it does?

I actually think that’s pretty cheap. Got a link to this new aircraft?

A slightly off-topic question that’s just came to my head here: what comes after hypersonic?

Which means that in a very short period of time whole commercial aviation will go supersonic, as slower planes will simply not be able to compete anymore.

I don’t think I’d want the WHOLE industry supersonic. Nothing beats a nice relaxing flight on a propellor-engined aircraft. Always good for short-haul and domestic flights. Mind you, so is Easyjet 😉

Maybe not hypersonic, but supersonic. Another 12-15 years I reckon, and we’ll see commercial supersonic jets again.

I don’t understand though – we have fighter jets going at mach 3 and mach 4, and they use far more fuel than Concorde did, and are flown regularly. Surely the Concorde could still be used, but the number of flights could be even more limited, or it could be used for air-shows and stuff? It’s just such a waste to have such an amazing aircraft sitting in a museum all day long.

Another thing – there would always be a market for concorde for the super-rich. Make tickets slightly dearer and it would make a profit.
