I also recall seeing the Rothmans Team display along the seafront, it must of been mid to late 70’s.
I also remember a couple of displays at the Old Leigh Regatta many years ago.

Firebex, I would suspect your information is a bit out of date?
I went and had a look last week and there were a couple of guys working on the aircraft but they did’nt want to talk to anyone.

Just to let you all know. RP-C8020 (G-HLFT) is doing very well thanks to G-BEPS and has just completed a very successful flight delivering a helicopter to Australia.

Long may FT grace the skies:)

I have just met the HeavyLift rep at G-BEPS for the last time. The machinery to start scrapping the aircraft is arriving on site later today and it is expected that the aircraft will be disposed of by the weekend:eek:
I have not been to the aircraft for a few weeks and was amazed at how quickly it was stripped of useful spares. A second container was all packed up ready to go, and as the rep said these goodies will help 8020 continue in service for a long time:D
    It is very sad indeed.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, I was on PS this morning and there is absolutly nothing left of the flight deck at all!
According to the rep the parking charges have been paid since Heavylift owned the aircraft and the airport are being far from helpful in getting rid of the aircraft. From what I understand, some back handers appear to be going on somewhere between certain parties on the airfield???????
The rep is not too happy about the whole attitude of SEN, and seeing first hand while I was on the aircraft as H and S paid a visit I can see why!
This morning while I was at the aircraft the belly cradle was being positioned to facilitate the gear removal, plans are for engines three and four to be removed and by the end of September she will be gone:mad:

As far as I am aware no serious offers for the aircraft were recived by HeavyLift, the rep tells me there is lots of enquiries for the aircraft but as soon as the parking bill is mentioned people lose interest very quickly! As he said if anyone wants it they can have it but remember the bills that go with it!

I have posted on the other threads about the Belfast. The HeavyLift rep told me the parking bill alone is £11500 a month:eek:

Unfortunatly nobody wanted the aircraft, I have a feeling the cost of moving the airframe anywhere would have been just too much.
I had a beer with the HeavyLift rep at the weekend and am planning to visit the aircraft again later this week.

Just for info. Southend Airport is holding an open day 29th and 30th. This may be a good time to get some last photo’s. I was on the aircraft at the weekend and the dismantleing is progressing much faster than I thought it would. Quote from the rep ” It will be saucepans by the end of September”.:(

I have followed this thread with interest and indeed it is sad to see this propliner being scrapped. The HeavyLift guy who is doing the job is a friend of mine and I have been lucky enough to go to the aircraft over the last several weeks. I was on board two weeks ago when, for the very last time PS was powered up while a check was made of the systems and instruments before removal and I can say I was impressed! Everything seemed to work! To the untrained eye anyway! Even the rep said he was pleasently suprised!
From what I was told HeavyLift had every intention of getting the aircraft airworthy but there was just too many obstacles placed in the way and the actions of some individuals just proved a hurdle too high, but at least with all the parts being removed from PS it will ensure many years of ops for her sister down in Oz.
I do not know a timescale for the scrapping but I dont think it will be too long.
Perhaps some of you should take a trip to Southend for one final look, the HeavyLift guy is very approachable and I know he wants to get it done so he can get back to Oz and back flying the last remaining airworthy Belfast.
