thank you for answering a question that some people here are unable to comprehend. However if they are really happy, they should consider a 3rd party again, especially with developments in China where they can now produce some of the parts.

I personally think that there are now too many political considerations in buying Su’s from China, I think PAF will probably go for the upgraded J-10 which is to be tested in 2007(?). In the interim some token F-16A’s may be thrown in by the US, with approval being gained by the summer of ths year.

PAF evaluated Su27 in mid 90’s, very happy with the aircraft but since they would be coming from Belarussia they were turned down.

PAF wants to buy aircraft from producers rather than thrid parties (Mirages excepted) and since the Indians have told Russia not to sell major combat systems to Pakistan, it basically closed the door on SU-27’s.

Maybe everybody should just stop squabbling.

Pak Thunder, I think a pic of a new CN-235 was posted on Pakdef some months previously.

Indonesia delivers military plane to Pakistan

    http://www.chinaview.cn 2004-12-03 20:38:54

JAKARTA, Dec. 3 (Xinhuanet) — Indonesia’s state aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) delivered a CN-235 aircraft to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Friday.

The 40-seater airplane is the third of four airplanes ordered by the PAF, the company’s president director, Edwin Sudarmo, was quoted as saying by the official Antara news agency.

PAF technical representative Sajid Mehmood and Pakistani Ambassador to Indonesia Sayed Mustafa Anwar Husain were also present at the ceremony at the Dirgantara factory in the West Javacapital of Bandung to witness the delivery.

Edwin said a similar type of aircraft designed for the Pakistani president will be delivered in January.

Under the 54 million US dollars contract signed in 2004, the company delivered the first of the four airplanes to PAF in February this year and the second last September.

“Three of the four airplanes will be used to carry troops and the other will be used as a presidential or a VIP airplane,” Edwinsaid. Enditem

Without getting involved in a petty squabble, would you care to indulge us by detailing where your information comes from and (if possible) provide a primary source?

Unbelievable. Tests on the Saab Awacs are still underway but Mig Master’s preliminary judgement is that the system is not adequate. Is this news provided by your uncle’s dogs nephew?

How can Argentina afford to pay for so much as a pencil let alone a brand new combat aircraft?

I guess your right about the typo Steve.

We have to remember that $970 is only if ALL options are exercised. The system purchase price along with training etc will be substantially lower than this.

Yep, but the two P-3C Orions that Pakistan already own have been out of service for at least five years, possibly longer.

This Portuguese news item confirms that OGMA have been contracted to “re-activate” those two at Karachi. It states they’ve been out of use since 1994:

    Steve Rush ~ Touchdown-News

They weren’t delivered until ’96 after the Brown Ammendment.

Good article despite the translation and somewhat selective highlighting by Brute Gorilla, i.e. He highlights the fact the LCA has a relatively advanced, whilst also highlighting the JF-17 is more conservative, however in the same paragraph he fails to highlight the fact that the ‘JF-17’s designer has discreetly accepted some most advanced aerodynamics technology’ (although the article doesn’t elaborate on this point).

I find it highly doubtful that Pakistan is interested in purchasing the F7MF, mainly due to the existance of the JF-17 programme and the PAF’s stated ambition to acquire a further 25 F7MG’s. Unless they are bought as a short term solution rather than more MG’s then they will not be bought.

A prospective MF purchase will not be in lieu of a modern fighter such as the Mirage 2000.
