i would love to do st maarten, i got the justplanes dvd of it and the talents quite good too….maybe i should stick that on my list
🙂
I would love to go to St Maarten as well as I would like to get some good shots from the beach…perhaps we could organise a Forum Trip, anyone up for that?
I do like the livery, and it is good that the aircraft has got winglets on it, but I think they should of at least put the Ryanair logo on ’em…?
I have been to LAX before, and have seen a parallel landing for my own eyes. Admittedly it was about 2 years ago, but still…you have got my word that they happen…enough said. 😀
hardly a conspiracy theory is it? some people should get out more!! :p
Couldn’t agree with you more… 😉
Buying out a bankrupt/failing airline…
A while back (in fact it was my first ever post!), I said that I wanted to start up my own airline, and I am now wondering whether it would be easier to take control of a bankrupt/failing airline, such as Olympic, and transform it…?
Using Olympic as an example, the government recently put the airline up for sale, however all the offers fell through for various reasons, and they are now asking for between 100-150million euros (£61m) to buy it.
Obviously I don’t have access to that kind of money, so it is not an option at this stage, but what are the chances of me being able to offer my services to a small but bankrupt/failing airline and try to help them transform it for the better…?
Thanks to both of you for the info you have provided…it will be of use and is much appreciated.
Hurrah! An A1 thread that can finally be left open…?
When is A1’s first commerical flight due…I thought it was supposed to be 21st Nov, but I’ve heard nothing about it as yet, anyone know anything bout it?
I did an aviation based degree, and judging by most of the people on my course, and the knowledge they had then this book was probably what some of them based their dissertations on!!!
I quite agree with you rdc1000, I am finding the book very useful for my studies and also as an entertaining read… it gives you a good insight as to how the LCC market began and what it has developed into.
Btw, what degree did you study and where?
When I were a lad, we had to do our own homework and hand it in on time, too ….. :diablo:
Come on GA, he was only asking for a little help, bless him…
crag,
I am a university student studying an air travel degree, and we are currently learning about low-cost ailrines and the impact that they have had on the air travel markets. Can’t really give you much info, as we have only started this topic in the last few days, but have you looked at Easyjet’s website? When I last looked there was quite a lot of info in the ‘About Us’ section, details about competitive strategy and stuff which may be of use to you.
I would recommend you look to buy a booked called ‘NO FRILLS: The Truth Behind The Low Cost Revolution In The Skies’ by Simon Calder, you may find some useful information in there…? I do have a copy of it, so if you want to borrow it, PM me with your address and I will post it on to you.
Alternatively, you can check out the link below for Amazon as it is relativley cheap…
I think the thing to do is never discount any carrier as being more expensive…instead, search them ALL. It is a common mistake that people make when booking fares with an LCC, they just ‘think’ they will be cheaper.
This is one thing I cannot not understand though, how is that the LCC’s can afford to sell the seats as such a low price, and yet still make a profit…
And on your comment about searching ALL the airlines…good luck, but you’ll be there for hours if you search them all… unless there is a site that compares all flight fares (Sched/Chart/LCC)…?
First Choice definatley have a row 13 on their 757-200’s cos it is the row just behind the emergency exit seats…not sure as to why some airlines don’t have it though – maybe they are superstisious!
I had a go at booking a flight from Manchester to Larnaca ( Via Heathrow ) for 2 adults, got a price of well over £1,300.00.
£1,300.00 – how much?
I would be very interested to know how it arrived at that figure…?
That reminds me of the woman who used the RAC route finder service to go to Devon, it recommended her to go via Ireland and France on a 2 day drive!
I know you are a BA fan, but can I suggest you look at charter airlines (i.e First Choice – I am sure they operate scheduled services to LCA. If they don’t out of MAN, then they certainly do out of LGW!)
Thanks rdc1000, which UK airport do they operate to?
I like the livery, but have never seen this airline before, where do they operate from/to?
