Ben , the Scimitar has moved on (unfortunately), to your neck of the woods ; the Spit is coming along ,engine and cowlings now fitted (not sure I can post a pic as I can’t resize them).
….and the Seahawk ?
That link isn’t much help I’m afraid. “This Page Under Construction”.
Well, works fine for me.
Takes you to Barry Wallonds website. If your still having trouble, go to Google and type his name in 😀
Click HERE for info’ on the Spitfire (click on ‘My Spitfire’ section) or search this forum for at least one topic on it.
So does anyone know if she has finally gone yet?
Don’t you Jon ?
I thought you were the guy organising the rescue ?
TT,
Yes indeed, i had hoped Mr Rustys rescue would get noticed.
I have Flypast from day one, and in the good ‘ol days it was crammed full of group recoverys, digs, scrapyard hauls etc…
Now the yards all but gone, and wreck sites dug, these modern times see the articles based on the latest restoration to emerge from Duxford or Chino.
Aside from a coup over the ‘other’ magazine, a bit of good ol’ fashioned wreckology journalism is most welcome 😀 😀
Yes, I remember that. It was a great series…….. In this episode they were on some island with a causeway and were going to pretend they’d found a Spitfire buried in the mud flats I think, so they could sell it to a collector and make a few quid. Id like to see it again someday.
Dave,
The premis was the family of the Spitfire (or Hurricane ?) pilot would pay them for recovering the wreckage from the mud flats on the south coast.
Instead they hired some suitable looking wreckage from a ‘dealer’ whose yard was full of wartime wreckage. Pretty sure it included a Merlin, but in the background really was all sorts of stuff which i presume was either filmed at a real south coast museum or was loaned for filming. Anybody know the full story..?
Anyhow, he (the dealer) had to find a suitable spot, dig a hole & place the wreckage in and cover it over, then the pilots family would pay & view the actual ‘discovery’ of the aircraft. However, when digging, the dealer guy unearthed the back end of a real Me109 (from a hithero unknown BofB crash) which i think also contained the pilots remains.
Pretty sure one of the characters had an attack of guilt, called it all off, reburied the ‘109 and walked away from the deal.
Hopefully somebody has it taped, although official VHS releases turn up on eBay, so i’ll keep an eye out.
Now…. any Bergerac experts out there ?
….Last time I saw a 110 in a tv series it was in an episode of Bergerac underwater off Jersey and was not a replica . Wonder if it is still under the sea?
Cor blimey… that was a while back, but i remember it well.
Always was intrigued if it was a real ‘110
And anybody recall that episode of ‘Perfect Scoundrels’ TV series with Peter Bowles & Bryan Murray where they pretend to dig for a Spitfire, hire some suitable wreck stuff, but actually find an Me109 ?
According to IMDB it was episode 3/season 3 called “Last of the few” and aired on 9 May 1992.
Always wondered on the background to that episode as well, such as whose wreck stuff (Merlin and Me109 tail) was used ?
Anybody…….?
They have been on eBay since the start of the week, and certainly haven’t been ‘over the odds’ – they’ve been at the same price every dealer is selling them at, on buy it now for the most part……..
I agree with Damien, how does selling it at the RRP of £16.99 constitute selling it “over the odds” ?
My 2nd example arrived this morning from ‘Polarbears3kitskat’ (aka Plastic Pastimes of Poole).
They reckon they had 850 in, but stocks are now getting “low”. Though it’ll be interesting to see if the share holders of Airfix allow them to sit on the moulds instead of another run.
Aside from the fact they still sell kits that pre-date the real TSR.2, surely they would carry on selling a profit making kit ?
bump
TT,
Any details on those decals ?
I’ve not heard of them. Mainly because the Hannants/Xtradecal ‘what-if’ sheets seem to be in vogue……..
cant see them as i am not logged on!
******!!!!!
Hope Vulcan-love doesn’t mind, but they are reproduced here….
Where did you get yours from?
Eric/Ben..
I ‘Bought Them Now’ on eBay. One from a model shop trading on eBay and the other from Plastic Pastimes of Poole (01202-746964) who also trade on eBay.
Both were standard RRP of £16.99, but just type in TSR.2, you should find quite a few.
😉
Yeh…Steve Milnthorpe and P3717, he sold it to Hawker Restorations.
I think Rocketeers outstanding progress to date on his (all original) Hurricane project speaks volumes without commenting further.
Thus………
Interestingly, Bruce at the DH Museum does have a very interesting project which is not only very affordable but would also make an ideal and managable restoration project. And before anyone suggests there are already too many chippies extanct in the UK, I would suggest there are never too many….
It’s SOLD !
The guy isn’t arsed Jon, he has us by the b******s. He is hoping our consiences are pricked by the fact she will get hacked up anyway and he’ll make £2000 just by scrapping her, if Vulcan Love’s figures are accurate, which by the look of it they are. So either way, he isn’t losing anything, he’s putting a gun to ‘391’s head and commanding a ridiculous ransom
Indeed he is.
I’ve watched this saga mature from the side lines, as you nead to be VERY tactful when dealing with neadorthol man.
His only goal in life is money, the more the merrier.
As i suspect is the case, he’s well aware of the interest in the item. He may even stop by here. Either way, the guy smells a profit, and they often assume that anybody who plays with old aeroplanes is loaded.
Everybody needs to calm down IMHO, and play at his game. 😮
