Wanna copy of episode 1 then…?
I think there were 10 in all ?
This series called ‘Airline’, was it the one with the fictitional Ruskin Air services that flew Dakotas and was based after WWII ?
Yes indeed. Produced by Yorkshire TV, and featuring G-DAKS (plus another i cant recall) along with Jack Ruskin & co’.
Apparently there was to be a second series, but featuring Wroughtons G-CONI. Anyone know more ?
“I wish they’d put “Airline” back on telly.
Anyone know if it was ever released on video?”
I’ve got the 1st episode on DVD c/o someone on eBay.
I could run off a VHS copy or perhaps enquire about a disc copy if anybody wants one ?
William Franklyn…. Yes thats the guy, now name the drama ?
Richard Todd?
No, i think it was Neville ~something~. (The surname Franklyn rings a bell)
Is there a BBC actor called Neville Franklyn ?
It was a one-off drama in colour, filmed & aired only once (just like Airline) in the late 70’s / early 80’s.
[QUOTE=andrewman]
In Derbyshire in the early 80s their were several reports of a “Ghost Lancaster” or a “Silent Lancaster” etc. This aircraft was often heading to or from the peak district.
QUOTE]
Can anyone recall a BBC one-off drama aired in the early 80’s with a similar topic ?
I recall it centered on an ex-RAF pilot finding a Lanc in a barn, getting his old crew together, putting it back together & flying one more mission to Cologne or similar (all without permission of course), and the twist at the end was that they dropped poppies instead.
I can picture the lead actors face but his name escapes me at present.
Any Lanc fans recall this ?
I think you may well find that the Gladiator makes a move to MAM when the new hangar is established.
Yes Dave, I know, just merely pointing out to those not aware that the two museums aren’t connected.
The location in Valetta would preclude any whole airframes.
The MAM (of which I’m a member) are rapidly expanding & professional in their approach to preservation, and would urge anyone to visit & donate if at all possible.
To see the Hurricane when it came out the water & to see it now… wow ! 🙂
The Malta Air Museum does have a set of wings for her which were acquired in the 1990’s from surplus items left over from the Norwegian Lake
recovery of Gladiator remains. I guess work will start on the wings after the Hurricane rebuild.
The Hurricane project is being undertaken and located at, the Ta’Qali museam, while the Gladiator resides with the museum in Valetta.
Although I believe that in a complicated deal involving the FAAM, Norwegians and Retro Track & Air… ‘Faith’ will end up with a set of feathers soon.
Anyone know which one this is? Who is currently restoring it?
A certain Mr TonyD’ after he’s done the Hurricane i presume ?
[QUOTE=Mike J]Leaflets, who needs leaflets
Gee…whizz thanks Mike (!)
The word ‘leaflet’ was mentioned because last time I was at FAAM, the guys in charge of the Cobham Hall has a promo stand running.
They didn’t have a hooked up pc direct to their site, they had….er…. leaflets !!
Very true, I’d forgotten that the museum storage hall is open the evening before.
Any details on this please ?
I’ve mislaid my leaflet with the dates on it, but i recall that the last open day was in September.
Is that Friday ~the~ day, or a special treat for airsho fans ?
Cheers….
They also have a B-26K nose section, which I recently inquired about, and was told that both where in store with Ralph Hull at Hull Aero, who at present, is too busy to commence ‘work’ on them, so thanks for confirming that Yak 11.
Cheers…. 🙂
Tiffie cockpits…
Dave,
I’m 99% certain at least 2 of those (pictured in a very early edition of Flypast circa 1982-3) are the ones owned by Peter Smith, and displayed for many years at Brooklands.
According to the latest Wrecks ‘n’ Relics 19 they are currently resident at the Hawkinge BofB museum.
Apart from the recently recovered Chippenham example plus of course, Duxfords… I’m not aware of any other ‘original’ cockpits in preservation, discounting rebuilds such as Roger Marleys stunning example. 🙂
Yep, I was at RIAT and they were £50, but when I got to the Corgi stand itself, they were flogging ’em for £30.
On top of the pc now….! 😀
John Howard as UK leader ?
😮
Aha.. i see the yellow Harvard is in close formation with a Stirling ! 😀
