…maybe a tribute is too much, but needless to say this is a remarkable turnpoint of warfare history..
I’d have avoided posting pics of the explosion mushrooms though(several thousand ppl were vaporized in that..), but apart for that…
Alex

According to an eyewitness he was flying a 4 ships formation, then went inverted and dived without recovering π
What a bad year for aviation… π
Alex
steve’s posts were the evidence of what great person he was: a man with a deep passion for aviation, and an enthusiasm which was really involving.
Losing a great forum mate in such dramatic way goes beyond any understanding, I only hope that right now he’s flying high in the sky and smiling at us from above there..
Alex

Alex
guys… u r expressing opinions on something u r not even sure about…
1)we dont know if the pilot who pranged it was the same of La Fertè
2)I wouldnt dare to call someone u dont know an idiot, ok, he made a mistake and was propbably too easy on the controls, but if they put him there there must be a reason…
Alex
uhm… grass airfield might be better for taildraggers, but the runway grass and base must be in good conditions, with a good draining and smooth surface. I dont think any taildragger might be more “skittish” on tarmac, but it surely leaves less space for mistakes.. another relevant factor (that is valid at least for our engine) is that the TBOs of engine operated from tarmac are higher than the ones operated from grass runways, and this is something really important when u have to mantain an aeroplane.
