Alex,
Clear your PMs.
done 🙂

The smoke trail is caused by an exhaust shroud fitted over the port exhaust stubs to prevent the gases going into the supercharger intake. If you look at the video of Black 6 it only comes from the port side
I’ve seen the german 109 videos and the smoke trails come from both sides..
Are u sure this is the real reason why?
Alex
yes, great videos Laurent! Thanks a lot! 🙂
Alex
Hi hope that Laurent will sort out a way to let us have a higher res version of the video, but I think that we’ll actually never know the truth, unless the pilot tells it to us 😉
Alex
with the kinetic energy u achieve with a dive, u can gradually reduce the throttle on your way to the top, mostly to avoid funky gyroscopic effects, expecially on high HP planes.
Once again where’s Steve Patterson??? 🙂

Alex
er..will it be at u know where? :D:D:D:D

It departed! The wing drop at the top of the loop is because the wing stalled…
I dont think so. A wing stall in that configuration means a spin. He was really near to the edge, but managed to get out. Here’s my idea
1) he decides to go for another loop or half cuban.
2) pulls up for a long loop
3) doesnt reduce throttle while climbing
4) arrives on top at very low speed, the engine still at a good 75%
5) the engine+prop torque cause the innatural rotation on top (“Scheisse!”)
6) he seconds the rotation (contrasting it would have caused serious troubles!) and once he goes for the second roll starts to give some inputs
7) a quick rudder control (fishtailing..), nose down and airspeed needle in the green arc again.
A mistake that can happen when doing aerobatics, but that definitely needs a safer altitude level. All in all I dont think that they took the first Cessna pilot they found 😉
Alex
I’m asking cuz to me u lose control of a plane when no matter what u do, she will not respond to your inputs.. A stall (if there really has been one) doesnt mean u r losing control of a plane.. The fact it looks alarming is because it’s not well done, and a dirty aerobatic manouver can look scary. I’ve seen Pitts spinning god knows how many times and everytime I have shivers, but it’s a controlled manouver. As I stated before there should be more severe regulations about safety height and prolly the pilot shouldnt overdo when displaying this plane (not only because it’s a rare one, but because it can be a pretty tricky machine).
I guess there’s a general overemotional reaction over a dirty manouver here..
Alex
..the video about the yak 9 doesnt need any comments of course..
Alex
anyway could u guys tell me what u mean exactly by “losing the control” of the aeroplane?
Alex
and btw yeah, where is steve??
Alex
I still think that the roll on the top of the loop might have been started by the torque of engine+prop..
Alex
avro’s finest and digby, could u please tell us on what basis u assume the pilot lost control of the plane? I explained my reasons, u guys didnt. I agree on the fact that he prolly made a mistake and maybe he’s not really easy on the controls, but he didnt lose control of the plane. There’s a HUGE difference between making a wrong aerobatic figure and losing control of a plane.
Alex
watching the video again and again..
the fact is that when u do a cuban eight u do the roll after u r on top of the climb, not while u r at it, so u have time to regain some speed.. My thought is that maybe the pilot was tricked by the engine torque, since the really innatural manouver to me is the start of the roll on top of the half loop. I was even noticing with Mossie the black trails that the engine leaves behind, I guess it’s caused by the oil leaking thru the piston rings, since the inverted V engines seemed to be more sensitive about it.
Alex
..anyway a higher resolution videoclip from 0:40 to 0:60 would help a bit, is it possible to have it Laurent?
