Who’s the pilot?
Red Bull Champion 2009, 2010
Duxford Tuesday 4th September:
Typical that my postcard arrived after I got back…
The Nord 1002 G-ATBG was resting today, with a trip back to Hangar 2:
TFC’s Hellcat is off the ground at the moment:
The Carbon Cub has been repositioned, and reveals a radio call of N396SR, solving the mystery but not explaining the incorrect registration on the rudder:
A new pilot was checking out the ARCo Buchon, not put off by the close attention from the Duxford paparazzi:
Old Warden Monday 3rd September:
More sorties from the RE8 and Albatros today, with some real sunshine for a change:
The RE8 made a series of flights testing different ‘ballast’ settings:
After trying small and medium ballast, the large size was selected for dressing up to feature in an air-to-air formation:
The Albatros joined the fun:
Many thanks again to all at Old Warden for their assistance.
Overheard exchange between elderly man and woman, while having my post lunch bimble…
Woman, gesticulating towards the airliners outside, “I don’t know why they have those here…”
Man, “They’re not at all interesting…”
As a very frequent visitor, I can offer this month’s most common phrases overheard by visitors arriving at Duxford:
No.1: (On mobile phone)”I’m at Duxford”
No.2: ”We’ll go to the far end and work our way back”
No.3: ”If this is the Hangar with flying aircraft, why are they all in bits?”
No.4: ”No, the playground’s not open, I expect they are waiting until the school holidays are over”
No.5: ”Is that DCW?”
Old Warden Wednesday 29th August:
Part Four:
To round off today’s event, two of the many people who made things happen. Gene DeMarco is the chief pilot of TVAL, with Air Vice-Marshal Peter Dye OBE, Director General of the RAF Museum:
Many thanks as usual to the Old Warden staff and helpers. If we are lucky a shot of the RE8 flying this morning may appear later…
Old Warden Wednesday 29th August
Part One, The RE8.
An early arrival today at Old Warden was not early enough, with the exciting news that the RE8 had flown earlier. Poor weather was on the way, so it looked like a disappointing day, but luckily the RAF Museum had chosen today to present their three new acquisitions to the great and good (and the press).
The following pictures tell the story…
Now on show in Hangar 3, the RE8 awaits its UK airshow debut on Sunday. Be there….
