Duxford Monday June 25th:
Another major hangar shuffle was in progress on arrival this morning, with two resident Spitfires out on the grass:
Another three Legends highlights: Bearcat, P-47 and Mr. Steve Hinton:
A great routine from Steve Hinton in the TFC Bearcat:
Same pilot, this time with SNAFU:
A very different and precise series of aerobatics by the TFC Hawk 75:
Visiting for a practice was Fokker Dr.1 G-CDXR / 403/17:
With the sun finally prevailing, the HAC Hurricane:
And finally, at five o’clock, the unusual sight of Sikorsky S-38B N28V, Osa’s Ark:
We didn’t mention the other Duxford highlight today: Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Very seasonal!
Duxford Sunday June 24th:
All kinds of weather today, and the Blenheim I posed with the Spitfire I before being towed back to Hangar 3:
OFMC were out in force, with Paul Bonhomme and Steve Jones on Airshow duty:
Also returning from the Lowestoft show was Sally B:
Another powerful display from the TFC Bearcat:
And finally, a busy day for Classic Wings:
I’m told the Spitfire Tr.9 arrival was Boultbee’s SM520.
There’s a good chance of another vintage classic being seen at Duxford more often. Conceived and produced in the 1950’s, this hard worker has reached the end of its useful life and will be paid off on Monday in time for Legends. Might be in need of some restoration….
Happy retirement Brian!
Duxford Friday June 22nd:
Pretty grim weather again today, and the only activity on arrival this morning was in Hangar 2, where the TFC crew continue preparations for the big weekend.
The Spitfire FR.XIVe was ‘wheels up’:
The P-40B radiator exposed:
A box of chocks for the weekend:
I was ready to depart when it was pointed out that half a Sabre was approaching:
But some more Hangar-shuffling suggested a notable event. The Blenheim I was taken from Hangar 3 to ARCo at lunchtime:
One more picture I couldn’t resist:
Duxford Wednesday June 20th:
There was a definite Pre-Legends atmosphere at Duxford today. If only the weather is as good in 10 days time.
Good news: A truck arrived at TFC.
Bad news: It’s a departure:
Good news: Fingers crossed, it may be back….
The TFC P-40B was well and truly wrung out this morning:
A taste of things to come:
The Boss and his Bearcat:
Two of the Legends 2012 headliners:
More British Daks. These are some of the poorer images, but worth seeing for their rarity:
G-AHCU of BEA at Northolt 15-7-51, when viewing areas were rather different:
G-AJZD of British Nederland Airservices, location unknown but probably 1950:
G-AKJN became F-OAIG in 1951:
G-ALXN of BEA:
G-AMDZ with BEA:
G-AMDZ again, showing different tail markings:
G-AMNV of BEA:
G-AMPY of Starways:
G-AMSS of William Dempster, circa 1953:
Unmarked G-AMZH:
Bolivia received 15 Canadair built T-33s in 1973. These were supplemented by 18 (?) ex French Air Force examples overhauled and delivered 1985-86. Most have been recently upgraded in Canada and remain in service.
There’s been no work on the playground (or to be precise, the Themed Activity Zone) for two weeks. It may be coincidence, but there is now an application for planning permission posted on the fence. It would be unkind to draw the obvious conclusion from such flimsy evidence, but the planned opening on July 21st may be delayed….
Duxford Thursday June 14th:
Not much flying today, with very strong crosswinds. Some rare sunshine, however, gave a few photo opportunities.
The HAC Spitfire and Hurricane departed for ‘Action Stations’ duties, and there were engine runs from their Nimrod and the TFC Mustang and Sea Fury:
The TFC Spitfire V had a brief outing during a hangar shuffle:
Visiting Chipmunk G-BBMV / WG348:
Duxford Wednesday June 13th:
Today’s entertainment came from three very different machines. First out into the sunshine came Buchon G-AWHE:
Um die ecke und schnell mit Herr Spink:
On a ‘lighter’ note, the magnificent Nieuport 17 replica G-BWMJ/N1977 flew for the first time this year. Its Legends appearance will provide some context for the later generations of warbirds on show:
Sur la patrouille avec Monsieur Gauld-Galliers:
A very different visitor in the shape of Strikemaster G-SOAF/425 in Omani colours from Hawarden:
