An interesting restoration to the register on 6-6-12 was G-ARKD, a CAC Mustang originally registered 24-2-61 on import ex VH-BVM. It was damaged beyond repair at Athens 7-9-61. There’s got to be a good story behind this one…..
EDIT: Just found an old thread on G-ARKD at:

Duxford Thursday June 7th:
With only 23 days to go, things were quiet in Hangar 2 on arrival this morning. The TFC Sea Fury, back on her wheels, was obviously still a long way from Permit issue:
However, by 1130 she was closed up and on the way out for engine runs:
Heavy rain was forecast, so only a short window available:
A few tries and some nice smoke, and the Centaurus was running very smoothly:
Revealed during the hangar shuffle:
Finally, I’m not sure the latest on Snafu has been mentioned on this thread. This short TFC video includes some awesome air-to-air footage:
Duxford Monday June 4th:
A quick tour of Duxford between the showers this lunchtime failed to reveal much of interest. Scraping the barrel, however, I bring you Snafu’s brand new Cambrai cockpit covers ( a needlework masterpiece ):
Based Cub G-AKAZ undergoing some maintenance:
Regular visitor, Super Cub G-BIMM:
Saturday 9th is a Bonus Day Fly-In, but I doubt 100 British and French homebuilts would satisfy your need for warbirds.
I notice, however, that the Cleethorpes Festival Of Flight (9th and 10th) includes Hurricane, Buchon and Nimrod II. One or more of these may fly from Duxford.

The Zero story has been mentioned before. The airframe, minus engine and instruments, is being conserved on a solid rig with a perspex frame to consolidate the parts. Whether it will be displayed at Duxford or South Lambeth remains to be seen.
More details of its recovery from Taroa are at:

This picture was taken on 30-7-99, shortly after arrival at Duxford, when all the parts were together. The wing sections, tail wheel etc have not been on display recently:
Duxford Friday June 1st:
The first signs of Jubilee fever at Duxford were noted today:
Very appropriate, since the Ambassador was classed as the Elizabethan in BEA service. G-ALZO first flew in 1952, so is also celebrating her Diamond Jubilee along with Viscount G-ALWF and Vampire WZ590.
Some more spares have arrived for Harrier GR.9A ZD461, including these drop tanks:
The B-17G F-BDRS / 44-83735 now has outer wing panels attached:
The TFC Sea Fury has the prop re-fitted:
Surely some mistake?
Sally B departed for weekend duty at the RAF Odiham families day:
Fennec/T-28B N14113 also departed for an airshow appearance:
Buchon ‘Yellow 10’, having been tested yesterday, moved back to Hangar 2:
Finally, Spitfire I P9374 was also on the move:
Duxford Wednesday May 30th:
A worrying sight on arrival at Duxford this afternoon, with a big clear-up after last night’s ram raid. During the early hours, some half-wits drove a stolen 4×4 into the entrance building, presumably trying for the cash machine.
A quick check in Hangar 2 to make sure nothing important was missing, and Snafu was without a prop. I am assured, however, it was not stolen, just being tweaked:
The Grace Spitfire was also missing cowlings, but only for an engine check:
Otherwise, we were treated to the pair of Buchons sunbathing , with a short flight by G-AWHE at 1530:
Duxford Monday May 28th:
After a thrilling weekend, it was quickly back to the old routine at Duxford this morning. A few display aircraft were still to depart:
PK delighted all with an astonishing display in the tiny Cosmic Wind:
The Red Bull pair of SBach 300’s were airborne for a photoshoot with RV-8 G-LUDM:
With today being Memorial Day in the USA, Sally B made her annual pilgrmage to Madingley:
A Chinook flew by, armed to the teeth:
SNAFU: A morning sortie in the hands of Stu Goldspink, and a powerful display on return, sadly into very bright sunshine:
After yesterday’s photocall at the book launch, Spitfire I G-MKIA/P9374 was out for engine runs:
An afternoon test and display were carried out just before the weather closed in:
SNAFU again: A test flight with Pete Kynsey included a John Dibbs photoshoot, with a blistering display on return, just before the rain started:
It was a long and tiring day at Duxford yesterday, but I spent my evening reading the new book. Quite unputdownable.
It was very good of IWM to put on a small airshow to entertain the crowds waiting for the author’s arrival. A particularly nice gesture was the full size replica Spitfire built specially to promote the book, very lifelike!
Or am I missing something?
Anyway, good luck with the movie rights bidding war that must have started. I understand Peter Jackson wants to make another trilogy, but that will need two more Spitfire I books…
