Duxford Monday 21st May:
A corporate event at Duxford this morning featured a very welcome visit by the Aces High C-47A.
Royal Enfield (now an Indian company) launched their Classic 500 ‘Pegasus’ motorcycle, inspired by a notable past design:
“At the height of the Second World War, Royal Enfield made a resilient 125cc motorcycle designed to be deployed behind enemy lines via parachutes and onboard the Horsa Glider to provide communications support along with acting as a quick mobility platform for the forward units of the Airborne Pegasus Regiment across key operations such as D-Day and Market Garden. Officially designated the ‘RE/WD 125’ it was more fondly recalled as ‘The Flying Flea’ by the men who rode it.”
A photo shoot was followed by a parachute jump from the C47 by the Red Devils:
The Dak will be back on Friday for the weekend Duxford Air Festival
Duxford Sunday 13th May:
Regular visitors to Duxford will have come across the ‘Old Dux’ veterans association, whose members were serving RAF personnel during Duxford’s operational years. Today saw the winding up of the organisation:
Sadly our unique Association will close on 13th May 2018 after 23 years.
Our aims were to re-unite old friends who had lost touch over the years,
to provide an opportunity to recapture and experience the spirit of the place.
The place that is uniquely Duxford – to perpetuate the memories.
We believe that this has been successfully achieved and maintained throughout the term of our existence and are grateful for the generous help we have recieved from the staff of the I.W.M. during this time.
Our archives reveal the total membership as 538 but time has taken its toll which leaves 234 stout hearts to celebrate our final posting.
A dedication ceremony took place this morning. A new flagpole behind Hangar 4 flies the Duxford Station crest:

A red letter day, with the return to Duxford of an old friend. P-47D ‘No Guts No Glory’ left for the USA in 2006, but came home this morning re-branded as ‘Nellie’. This represents an aircraft of the 492nd FS, a current F-15 unit at Lakenheath.
She touched down at 1001 from Sywell and made a short local flight at 1100, before being towed to Hangar 2:
Many thanks to GP, RG and SG.
