Duxford Monday October 3rd:
Another day, another film crew. MH434 must have a longer list of credits than any other UK warbird. I was told the filming was for ‘Horrible Histories’
A passing Puma tried to get in on the act, sorry for not waving back…
TFC continue to refine the markings on the P-40F. The red surrounds have been repainted in a more authentic shade (you’ll have to take my word for it):
Duxford Friday September 30th:
The French Skyraider returned home this afternoon. With other more skilled photographers in attendance, I’ll just provide a few images. So, several shaky Skyraider shots, pending Pen-Pushers perfect pictures:
Crew ferry was this lovely 1967 Bonanza:
Last week, I posted two pics taken 71 years apart. Here are two more, of Bf109E 1190. Shot down 30-9-40 in Sussex, on display 30-9-11 in Hangar 4:
And finally, the obligatory Spitfire shot:
Duxford Thursday September 29th:
Helitech was winding down today, hopefully the sight lines onto the airfield will be restored soon.
Entertainment included another sortie by P9374, photos a little difficult into strong sunshine (but I’m not complaining):
Spitfire Tr.9 PT462 departed after a few weeks stay:
A rare visit from Tiger Moth G-AMTV:
Finally a reminder that the nights are drawing in. Low sun makes for some different views of the airfield and its residents:
Additions to the Register:
G-CGYF Gloster Gamecock II ex Finnish AF GA-43 registered 14-9-11 to Retro Track And Air.
G-FXII Spitfire F.XII ex EN224 registered 12-9-11 to Air Leasing Ltd.
There’s something to look forward to…
Duxford Tuesday September 27th:
A slow foggy start to Helitech today, but plenty to amuse the rotorheads. (Nothing ‘Historic’ to post here)
A TFC shuffle brought the French Skyraider outside on a foggy morning. It is rumoured to be departing very soon:
The P-40F is progressing, the prop should be refitted by now:
At ARCo, the Harvard was not behaving properly, giving an opportunity to see it uncowled:

Duxford Friday September 23rd:
A short update today. The French Skyraider is under repair, with a ‘new’ outer wing panel arriving:
The TFC Corsair is off the ground (at least for a while):
Progress on a Spitfire replica (no details of any future owner yet):
Otherwise, frantic activity was evident with the Helitech exhibition site.
Top seller in Wednesday’s auction was a 1929 Bentley, fetching £528,000…
Duxford Wednesday September 21st:
The Hawker Demon was positioned outside the Airspace car auction until midday. We were treated to a display before departure to Old Warden:
Otherwise, the only change concerned the repositioning of the damaged French Skyraider in Hangar 2, suggesting that its holiday in the UK may be coming to an end:
Any ideas on what sort of asking price its up for? Just in curiousity as I know my piggy bank won’t stretch that far 😀 .
The auction house website (at:http://www.classic-auctions.com/139/view.aspx) does not quote a figure.
I think it is priceless, but I am well known as a Demon lover (or is that demon-lover?)
Duxford Tuesday September 20th:
Only one story today. The Demon arrived despite strong winds and was positioned near to Airspace in readiness for tomorrow’s auction:
As mentioned before, the Demon is not part of the auction but is for sale by the same company.
Anyone interested in classic cars would enjoy a look round Airspace today. This is what I have my eye on:
A 1932 Packard 900 Light Eight Coupe estimated to fetch £30-35000.Offered with MOT until August 2012. I was considering bidding, but I think I’ll wait for a blue one….
Duxford Monday September 19th:
Thanks to Elliott Marsh for the extra Spitfire shots (you can never overdo Spitfire coverage).
I was inspired to revisit the 1940 Duxford Operations room today. On the wall is a picture taken late in the Battle of Britain. The date was September 19th 1940, so here are some pictures exactly 71 years apart:
Leaving the Ops room, with the recording of bombs dropping and Spitfires scrambling, an incongruous but oddly appropriate sight:
Elsewhere, preparations are underway in Airspace for Wednesday’s Car Auction:
I don’t think the Shackleton and Victor are for sale…
Sorry about the Flickr graffiti
Six of the Spitfires came home to roost at Duxford this evening, in rather better weather than Goodwood. Had they arrived 5 minutes later, this shot would have been framed by a spectacular rainbow. The sight and sound stopped everybody in their tracks. Thanks to the pilots (I think Bonhomme, Romain, Spink, Brown, Kinsey and Jones), owners and groundcrew.
I think I will revisit the 1940 Duxford Operations room tomorrow for a BoB refresher.
