One of my favourite aviation films.
Score was by Victor Young, one of the great film composers of the Hollywood ‘Golden Age’. He wrote music for ‘The Quiet Man’ and many others (Won an Oscar for ‘Around the world in 80 Days’). As far as I know, the soundtrack of ‘SAC’ is not among the scores available on CD.
Duxford Friday September 16th:
Thanks to an A14 closure, I was too late to see the departure to Goodwood of P9374/PV202/EP120 at about 1015. I am sure there will be coverage of the Mk 1 debut shortly.
With Duxford half empty and resembling a building site (Helitech Sep 27-29),the return of Hurricane Z5140/G-HURI was the only flying of note up to 1400:
However, there’s always something different to record. The TFC P-40F which arrived from Australia just in time for Legends needed a few additions to the markings. It is currently being ‘tweaked’ in Hangar 2:
With Rolf Harris being unavailable, TFC’s art department are completing additional nose art. The famous skull from the 85th FS will now be seen on both sides:
Duxford Tuesday August 30th:
Another quiet morning, enlivened by short flights from Ferocious Frankie and the based Stearman:
The 1200 ARCO Hangar Shuffle brought out a parade of trainers:
The Yale is a rare machine in Europe, it’s a pity she is not on the airshow circuit. Maybe the owner’s Singapore address accounts for its inactivity:
An update from Hangar 5, and the Vampire is looking good. Work on the wings is continuing, and we could see further assembly soon:
Any excuse for a gratuitous Beaver shot:
Finally, I was sent some recent pictures of the Meteor T.7 G-BPOA / WF877 that has been in storage Northside for a while. It is not IWM property, and is apparently American owned. Photos taken 11-8-11, with many thanks to Fred Taylor:

Rick,
Can’t promise anything at the moment, but I’ll PM later today for a chat.

As with any major project, progress depends on manpower and funding. Priorities change, and most of the Blenheim work is behind the scenes.
The short answer is ‘When it is ready’….
Actually, if every visitor who asked when it will fly was taxed one pound, I think it would be flying by now!
Duxford Friday August 26th:
No activity this morning in heavy rain.
Long overdue is an update on the Blenheim project, having just entered the 9th year of the rebuild. Recently added main wheels are the most noticeable change:
Otherwise, the regular changeover in Hangar 2 was the only photo opportunity:
Duxford Wednesday August 24th:
I’m really struggling to find anything new from a quick visit this morning.
No doubt it all happened after I left.
The ‘Storch’ (MS502 EI-AUY) has been moved to a new position in Hangar 5:
Only visitor was this 1946 Luscombe 8A G-BRDJ:
I notice this thread has passed the magic 100,000 hits. Thanks to everyone for your interest and comments. Starting in April, I find I have posted 600 photos from 84 visits! Without Friends membership, entrance would have cost £1386.00…..
The Chipmunk is WP929 (G-BXCV). I think it has been Duxford based since de-mob in 1997.
Duxford Monday August 22nd:
Entertainment today came from two German fighters from different eras:
The Buchon gave a superb display (into sun as usual):
The Fokker Dr1 dropped in for fuel, but also gave a display before departure:
Also visiting was this Auster AOP.6:
TFC continue to tweak their latest addition, the P-40F. Cowlings off for some extensive engine testing:
Nothing much else to report today. Hangar 2 (North) emptier than usual:
My spies tell me G-AKIF had a tyre problem, don’t think it was serious.
The based Acrosport G-CGAK also had a wheel snag earlier today, I guess Quik-Fit will be busy tomorrow.
