Also for our entertainment, Sea Fury WG655 was out for an engine run or two:
However, the highlight was a first glimpse of ARC’s latest masterpiece, BBMF Chipmunk T.10 WG486 now in Bristol UAS markings and looking ready for another ‘first flight’. Entered RAF service a mere 66 years ago!
Duxford Tuesday 2nd January:
‘Sharkmouth’ was towed to Hangar 2 North this morning, to join two other Mustangs in hibernation. Many thanks to Martin C. for pointing out a connection dating back almost thirty years when Sharkmouth, Ferocious Frankie and Miss Helen were together as Cisco, Moose and Miss L for the 1989 filming of Memphis Belle. All now hangared with B-17G Sally B / Memphis Belle !
July 3rd 1989:
As the New Year approaches, it’s time to roll the credits for the 2017 Duxford Diary.
All of the regular contributors owe much to the assistance and tolerance of the staff and volunteers on a daily basis, our thanks to one and all.
With the changes to the IWM Friends organisation, I would like to add my personal thanks to the volunteers on the admission desk who have signed me in over the years.
Thanks also for the many positive comments on this thread, all feedback remains welcome.
Best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year !
Duxford Monday 18th December:
Sea King XV712 has been at Duxford since 2010 and still wears the tiger stripes of 814 NAS. Today, an example of the same unit’s current equipment dropped in for a short refuelling stop. Merlin HM.2 ZH853 ‘Tiger 68’ wears the tiger badge on the nose:
