Duxford Friday 16th June:
PA474 was resting today.
Biggin based MJ627 was flying with Classic Wings, and should be busy over the weekend.
Aero Legends’ T-6G and Devon made an appearance:
A very emotive visitor at TFC:
1/5 scale, professionally built over 9 months, remarkably detailed, not yet flown.
Duxford Wednesday 14th June:
PA474 was out in the sunshine all day, and we were treated to three sessions of engine testing. With all four Merlins running, each was taken to high power in turn. A very vivid experience!
I don’t comment much on this thread, I prefer to record the facts and let the pictures do the talking. However, this BBMF/ARC project deserves a few words.
In 50 years of chasing aeroplanes, I’ve never seen a better example of how important the aircraft preservation movement has become. Such a superbly restored machine, relying on the skills of dozens of specialists, demonstrates what can be achieved and is the best possible reminder of a time that few people now remember. We really need this aeroplane!
I couldn’t get all the right angles in today’s bright sunshine, so many thanks to CP and GT for their help
Duxford Tuesday 13th June:
The only Lancaster activity I noted today involved a feather duster and a very long stick.
However, 4 Spitfires and Buchon ‘Yellow 10’ flew 9 sorties between them.
Apache ZJ207, here since the May airshow, had a successful airtest and departed, while an Army Wildcat dropped in for fuel:
Duxford Monday 12th June:
Good to see some ‘new’ faces at DX today, drawn by the chance of a Lancaster outing. No engine runs, but a short appearance for some hydraulic checks:
Spitfire N3200 made a long trip South, details awaited:
Resident for a while, Apache ZJ207 was towed back to the Eastern Apron for checks:
The Mig 15 was also receiving attention:
Duxford Friday 2nd June:
Plenty of activity at Duxford today despite the threat of bad weather.
Safe inside (but not for long?), Lancaster PA474 had her mid-upper turret installed this morning.
Dragon Rapide G-AGSH was over from Old Warden for training:
The Catalina departed for Dunkeswell, to fly at Torbay over the weekend:
Otherwise it was fighters galore. P-51D G-SHWN and Spitfire PV202 were active all day, and TD314 had a local flight:
TFC’s Gladiator and Hawk 75 are already in France, and today the Spitfire V, P-40C and P-40F joined Spitfire MH434 for a trip to Oostwold:
Spitfire ‘MV268’ was outside for a while and Fury ‘SR661’ left for Sywell:
Sally B is ready for a busy weekend, crew training on Friday and displaying at Duxford on Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday, she will be training, displaying at East Kirkby and also paying her annual tribute at Madingley.
