Old Warden Monday 21st November:
Here’s an (overdue) update from Old Warden.
The Shuttleworth ‘season’ ended seven weeks ago, but the engineers are busier than ever with annual inspections, rebuilds and repairs.
The latest project in the workshop is the 1912 Blackburn Monoplane. Uncovered indeed. It was a real treat to be invited in for a close look, and I am sure it will be a highlight of next month’s Engineering Open Workshop Days (Thu/Fri 29/30 Dec, bring biscuits!) See:
http://www.shuttleworth.org/events/openworkshop2016/
Plenty of progress on the Spitfire systems:
Also in the workshop was the Kennet Aviation Harvard:
The Sea Hurricane will be getting a new tailwheel:
Work also underway on Avro 19 and Mew Gull:
Van’s RV-7 G-TRVR has arrived for completion. This is the project started by the late Trevor Roche, and finished by John Edser for operation by the Shuttleworth Collection. Should look good with roundels….
Many thanks to all at OW for information and assistance.
Duxford Friday 11th November:
Nieuport 17 replica G-BWMJ/N1977 departed with her new owner to Stow Maries this morning.
Two Armistice Day visitors were displaying anniversary marks.
From 32 (The Royal) Squadron at Northolt was Agusta AW109SP GZ100. Delivered earlier this year (ex G-ZIOO !), the serial reflects the Battle Of Britain codes worn by the unit’s Hurricanes (GZ) and the 100th anniversary of the Squadron this year.
Also 100 years old is 57 Sqn, now a part of 3 FTS at Cranwell, using Tutors like G-BYWN:
The fleet of ATC Vigilants has been inactive recently, so it was unusual to see ZH271:
Glad you like the Honor Guard picture, a happy accident rather than a careful study.
Duxford Friday 4th November:
TFC’s Gladiator now has wing mounted replica guns fitted (Brownings ?):
The Stephenson Hangar Lancaster Viewing Gallery was closed this morning. On opening, what could be seen of the aircraft suggested the mid-upper turret, vertical tails and 3 engines have been removed. Sorry for poor quality picture.
Spotted an F-86 half way across the North sea on FR24 at 1330-heading towards Clacton/North Essex. Not displaying a reg or call sign-is this on route to Duxford perhaps?.
No, just an inaccurate database. N1F used to be an F-86, but has been a Gulfstream 650 since October last year.
Duxford Saturday 2nd July:
No Lockheed 12A today, hopefully tomorrow!
Spitfire MH434, back in her 222 Sqn codes, was flying this morning, due back tomorrow after a trip to Old Warden:
TA805 was flying with Classic Wings ‘Wing To Wing’ Dragon Rapide flights:
Visiting 1947 Cessna 120:
Among a group of visiting helicopters was ex-AAC Alouette HA-PPC / XP967:
Several Duxford aircraft (HAC Spitfire+Hurricane, IWM Spitfire I, ARCo Buchon, Spitfire MH434 and Sally B) are due to fly at Old Warden tomorrow.
A BBMF Hurricane is also scheduled to drop in for fuel around 1410.
Came across this today:)
Taken in Switzerland postwar.
And still flying today, nearly 40 years later
Duxford Friday 1st July:
A busy day for TFC, with only a week before the big event. Firstly, the Corsair departed for tomorrow’s Yeovilton airshow.
An easy climb if you remember the correct sequence:
The Spitfire FR.XIVe gave a spectacular display. The ‘new’ crowd-line, taking in the whole Eastern Apron, provides a better display-line. If Legends weekend allows use of Runway 24, I don’t think the loss of the Tank Bank will be an issue.
The P-40C made a short flight:
The TFC Gladiator has yet to fly this year, but was out for engine runs this afternoon:
Other action today included the departure of ‘Miss Pick Up’:
The Blenheim I returned:
Spitfire TA805 arrived and will be involved with the Classic Wings ‘Wing To Wing’ flights tomorrow and Sunday:
Another satisfied customer:
Visiting today:
Finally, one of the Flying Legends highlights is well on the way to Duxford. Lockheed Electra NC14999 is currently (Friday 2145) half way between Greenland and Iceland. Tracking available at:

Edit: The Electra landed at Reykjavik at midnight. Duxford today?
Duxford Wednesday 29th June:
A quick visit this morning saw the Blenheim I departing to Lelystad for film work:
The highlight was a noisy practice display from TFC’s Spitfire FR.XIVE G-SPIT:
Finally, talking of videos, the DAS Herald has her Darts cowled, but the soundtrack is a bit misleading (click on pic to view on Flickr):
