Duxford Saturday 22nd August:
Not much to report today, with Classic Wings providing the only warbird activity ( Spitfire and Harvard rides ).
A group of artists were being creative again (putting us mere photographers in our place):
One of todays visitors represented the Douglas Bader foundation. Check out their good work at:
http://www.douglasbaderfoundation.com/
Another visitor, based in Belgium, but showing allegiance elsewhere:
From IWM twitter:
F-15 Eagle will be outside from 10:00-11:00AM on Monday 24 August at #IWMDuxford whilst moving to the American Air Museum
Duxford Tuesday 18th August:
The Biggin Hill participants left early this morning, and it was a long and rainy wait for their return. MH434 was first back, at 1650:
The TFC/Friedkin fourship were next to emerge from the murk:
Finally, the HAC ‘Polish pair’ arrived in the rain at 1730:
There is now some extensive scaffolding around the DAS VC-10, which should allow some new paintwork if the rain ever stops:
The continuing American Air Museum work continues, with the temporary tail markings on the B-17 being made permanent:
Codes on the C-47 are also being worked on:
Aircraft should start moving back to the AAM next week. Some details may be made public on ‘social media’, hopefully we will be able to give some advance notice on this thread as well.
I’d just like to add the proper credit to that great shot taken at Heathrow. Trevor Davies took the picture and scanned it for me when we detailed the Moose story on Duxford Diary thread in 2013.
Duxford Sunday 16th August:
B-17G ‘Sally B’ was today’s star turn, with the unveiling of the 2015 Roll Of Honour. Events culminated with three flights, and I set myself the goal of capturing both Boeing bombers together. Easier said than done!
Nearly all three heavies:
Frankie was among the returning Eastbourne acts:
Duxford Friday 14th August:
Very bad weather prevented the return of 6 Duxford Spitfires today.
However, there’s plenty more where they came from:
[ MJ627 giving rides with Classic Wings, PT462 and BM597 being shuffled, ‘P7308’ still lodging with TFC, TA805 on the mend. ]
TFC’s P-40C was up for a short trip in the rain:
Blenheim and Texan out in the ever-changing light:
P&W Wasp Junior (C-45 G-BSZC ):
P&W Twin Wasp (rear view, to be installed on PBY-5A G-PBYA):
Finally:
Duxford Thursday 13th August:
The murky weather this morning failed to prevent the departure of 8 Spitfires to Humberside. TD314/SM520/EP120/MH434/N3200 and SL633 were later followed by PV202 and MV268. To answer Mike J, P9374 has not made an appearance since her return from London in July.
The IWM B-29A was repositioned on the Eastern apron this morning, to allow B-17 ‘Sally B’ the corner spot for Sunday’s Roll Of Honour day:
In Hangar 5, the F-15 was noted wheels up:
Duxford Saturday 8th August:
We had a very big sky today:
The Albatros D.Va replica (ZK-TGY) from Old Warden gave us a lovely demonstration before heading off to her new base at Stow Maries:
Classic Wings borrowed Spitfire TA805 for the Wing-To-Wing programme, though their day was shortened by some unserviceabilities:
‘Sally B’ returning from a show at Damyn’s Hall:
Finally, Hangar 2 looking good:
Duxford Thursday 6th August:
The painters and decorators were busy today. Hangar 3 has some serious scaffolding in place. I was unable to disprove the rumour that it is owlproofing work:
Also being worked on was the DAS Trident, already looking fresher after some new white paint:
Herald G-APWJ was another subject for painting, with white Air UK cheatlines being added:
Some routine door servicing allowed a different look at Hangar 4:
Finally, some more pics of the ‘new’ IWM B-25:
