Duxford Monday 15th September
BATTLE OF BRITAIN DAY
Things were almost back to normal at Duxford today, so I thought I’d post some pictures of Spitfires. Luckily, there were plenty about (thanks to the usual suspects for help with some of these shots)
The Hunter T.7 returned to base:
TFC’s Beech D17S was out for an engine run at ARCo:
Some views of Hangar 2 during this morning’s housekeeping:
Duxford Friday 12th September:
Lots of practice flying today, including P-40F/F6F/Hawk 75, Hurricane, Spitfire, Jet Provost, T-6, Beaver/Stearman, and Cosmic Wind. Here’s a few shots:
A visiting Harvard from Germany also flew today:
The DAS Herald was looking very different by the close tonight:
One of today’s visitors (from Bicester):
Duxford Tuesday 9th September:
Two flights today from TFC’s Corsair:
Spitfire PV202 departed to Headcorn, and ML407 was also active:
The TFC Hawk 75 spent the day in the sunshine:
The DAS Herald getting some attention:
A Lynx in for training:
Classic Wings formation departure:
Visiting was this 1960 vintage Cessna 210 from Austria:
Two of the Great War display team (Sopwith Triplane replica G-BWRA/N500 and Fokker Dr1 replica G-CDXK/403/17) dropped in for some Press work. Bruce Dickinson was flying the Fokker Triplane replica:
Duxford Monday 8th September:
It was good to see another Chipmunk back in the air this morning. WP929 (G-BXCV) has been reworked by ARCo and is in a new silver/yellow training scheme:
Also approaching completion is the rather longer term project, WK522 (G-BCOU) now with prop attached:
Paying a quick visit over lunchtime was Bronco 99+18 (G-ONAA):
I know it’s the obvious formation to display but is it actually planned for the day?
Nothing has been said about a formation. There’s also a chance we could see the Lancasters with the Red Arrows. A fitting final salute?
Duxford Tuesday 2nd September:
The Boultbee Spitfire SM520 spent the day with ARCo, sporting a new fuselage decal. The Spitfire Scholarship involves advanced flight tuition for 6 wounded or sick service personnel or veterans, with one of the students going solo in SM520 in September 2015.
Other Spitfires out and about were TFC’s EP120 and the Grace ML407. Plenty of Merlin music, but not flying today:
A flyby from this RAF Hercules C.4:
Duxford Wednesday 27th August:
TFC are sending five aircraft to the Shoreham display next weekend, and all five were out for engine runs this morning.
The Spitfire Ltd Buchon arrived this morning. Another Shoreham participant (15 Duxford aircraft are due to be there). The Western Desert camouflage seems about right for Cambridgeshire at the moment:
Otherwise, plenty of Spitfire activity, with PV202 giving rides and ML407 giving two practice displays
Hunter T.7 WV372 is due to display at the Duxford September show, and came by for a practice at lunchtime:
It was good to see the Beech C-45 ‘Southern Comfort’ in the air again. Now Czech owned, so maybe departing soon:
Finally, this Marham Aero Club Cessna seems to have an inappropriate registration, until you realise the previous user was the Coltishall Flying Club:
Duxford Saturday 23rd August:
Flying today were the based Catalina and Stearman, with two sorties from Spitfire ML407. Most of the activity, however, came from Bonus Day visitors. 16 of the 38 arrivals were RV’s, and the following odds and ends caught my eye:
Great Lakes G-GLST (actually a recent homebuilt):
1948 vintage Cessna 120:
This Cub Cruiser dates from 1941:
Some of the RVs:
