Old Warden Wednesday 18th September:
With next Sunday’s Flying Day being ‘Shuttleworth Uncovered’, there are signs that the NAW Camel replica may be featured. The tail surfaces and centre section have been fitted, the wings looked ready for rigging:
Still waiting for someone to post a picture of the last rotary-engined Camel to fly at Old Warden (G-ASOP/B6291 in 93/94)
Here’s another Duxford connection, with thanks to MM.
Noel Agazarian (flew the IWM Spitfire in 1940) had a sister Monique who flew with the ATA (including Spitfires). After the war she became chairman and chief pilot of Island Air Services and thus ‘owner’ of Dragon Rapide G-AGJG, now a distinguished Duxford resident.
Duxford Sunday 15th September:
Since today is Battle Of Britain Day, I thought I would pay my respects to a pair of Duxford’s veterans who have a very strong connection.
On September 30th 1940, this Spitfire flew 3 sorties with Flying Officer Noel Agazarian of 609 (West Riding)Sqn, shooting down a He111. However, the aircraft was damaged and force landed at home base Middle Wallop.
The very same day this Bf109E force landed near Eastbourne. Two enemies wounded the same day.
Agazarian fell to a Bf109 in Libya on May 16th 1941.
Duxford Friday 13th September:
Not a lot happening this morning, but still a few items of interest.
The L-39 G-CCWB (Arrived 2004 as N404ZA but never flown) is now dismantled, perhaps a move is on the cards:
Also looking ready to move is L-39 G-OTAF (W/O Duxford 2-8-03):
TFC’s Sea Fury receiving attention:
The IWM Shackleton XF708 has had wheels and tyres renewed, so it should be able to make room for the Autumn Quilt Festival (1-3 November, book your tickets now at: http://www.grosvenorshows.co.uk/html/Autumn_Duxford.html ):
Terrific news: The Eberhardt SE5E G-BLXT was restored to the UK Register 30-8-13 under the ownership of Richard Grace.
Having been cancelled 13-10-00 while still with the family of Patrick Lindsay, it has been stored near Greenham Common ever since.
Duxford Tuesday 10th September:
The Comanche Warbirds Spitfire I (G-CGUK/X4650) returned to Biggin Hill at lunchtime, having been resident since May:
Hangar 2 South:
Hangar 2 North:
A Hangar 2 shuffle took place, to accommodate the Classic Wings fleet. They will be operating from there for a while during work at the Eastern end of the Airfield:
Dragon Rapide G-AIYR/HG691 is well on the way to full health, but presently without engines:
Duxford Friday 6th September:
A wet and murky pre-show Friday, and last night’s arrivals stayed on the ground:
The Norwegian contingent was completed with the arrival of CT-133 NX865SA:
Spitfire PH-OUQ / MK732 was another grey arrival:
Arriving with the Spitfire was B-25N PH-XXV / 232511:
Today’s only colour came in the shape of Cub G-BPCF:
Old Warden Sunday 1st September (50th Anniversary Pageant)
Today’s airshow marked 50 years of display flying at Old Warden. Hermes Moth G-EBWD has been based for even longer (81 Years);
Richard Shuttleworth was the first owner of Spartan Arrow G-ABWP, which visited from Redhill to display with Parnall Elf G-AAIN:
The Avro Tutor was one of many to use the short (but in to wind) grass strips:
The Sea Hurricane was active again, showing a patch from the birdstrike last time:
Visiting to display was Minimoa BGA1639 / CYL:
The 1914-18 types remained grounded again. Note the sophisticated wind measurement device:
