Duxford Wednesday 10th July:
Another busy day, but an eagerly awaited practice by the Horsemen Spitfires was deferred for another time. No shortage of Spitfires, however:
Great to see the Mk.I active again, with a graceful display on return from her first flight this year:
The TFC LF.V EP120 was airborne for a test:
The ARCo Tr.9 spent the day at Sywell:
Miss Velma was airborne again:
While the Army Apache was an impressive sight…
The star of the show was the TFC Gladiator, and a routine from Nick Grey which made grown men squeal like little schoolgirls (you know who you are!)
To end the day, another polished aerobatic routine from Pete Kynsey in the Cosmic Wind:
Duxford Tuesday 9th July:
Another great day at Duxford, lots of action in the sunshine. Steve Hinton was airborne early in the TFC P-40F:
Yak 3M G-CGXG dropped by for a practice while on a sortie from Bentwaters:
Miss Velma and Princess Elizabeth together again (Steven Hinton and Stew Dawson):
Another wonderful display from Lee Proudfoot in Spitfire MH434. 70 years old next month (the Spitfire, that is) and today’s highlight once again:
Arriving from Biggin Hill was Spitfire G-PMNF / TA805. Flown later by Steve Hinton, she will probably be lead ship for the Horsemen:
Another Spitfire active was ML407:
Bang on closing time (a Legends tradition) and Steven Grey with the Bearcat:
Some other shots from today, starting with F-HAUL, an XtremeAir XA-42 flown in by Nick Grey:
Duxford Monday 8th July:
With the big weekend approaching, activity is increasing at Duxford. Although only T-28 G-TROY and the TFC P-40F were airborne, lots of engine testing and ground movement made the afternoon very entertaining (and very busy on Pen Pusher’s departure, as usual)
Warbirds out in the sunshine included Buchon G-AWHE and Spitfire I G-MKIA / P9374:
Spitfire IA G-AIST / P7308 was out for an engine run:
Spitfire G-LFVB / EP120 and P-47G G-CDVX / 225068 making room for a Princess:
Corsair G-FGID / KD345 will be missing the party:
Princess Elizabeth tested by Steven Hinton:
Miss Velma also getting some exercise:
The Boss arrived this morning, and chose to make a couple of flights in his P-40F:
Finally, for the record, there’s a smart Stampe lodging with ARCo at the moment:
Duxford Sunday 7th July:
Stifling heat again, and not a lot to report. The countdown to Legends started for real with a 3xWarbird display practice. Not the Horsemen (at least I don’t think so), but a team of L-4 Cubs. Duxford based G-AKAZ was joined by G-RRSR and G-AXGP for a spirited low-level display:
Henlow based Tiger Moth G-AJVE visiting:
Duxford Friday 5th July (Part 1):
Engine runs this morning from the TFC Spitfire V EP120:
There are still a few finishing touches required:
TFC’s Chief Pilot clearly enjoyed his second flight this year in the Gladiator, returning from a test flight with a vigorous aerobatic display:
With the sad news of Stephen Grey’s public display retirement just announced, PK’s powerful display routine in the Bearcat was rather poignant. The punchy ‘Joker’ routine was such a memorable feature of many Legends.
Duxford Wednesday 3rd July:
Another mostly dull morning, though there is some nice background colour as Nord 1002 G-ATBG departs for a local sortie:
Some sunshine around on return:
The ARCo Spitfire Tr.9 departed in the gloom:
A pair of Chipmunks were formation training:
The Danish Air Force visitors departed this morning. T-429 carries the FLSK (Flying School) badge:
Old Warden Military Pageant (30th June) Part 3:
Thanks for the comments, here’s the last lot.
Starting with Spitfire PR.XI PL965, flying with the Shuttleworth Sea Hurricane:
More excellent displays from visiting BBMF Lancaster and the Fennec N14113 from Duxford:
Two trainers, Tiger Moth and Blackburn B2:
Avro Tutor:
Some of the visitors departing:
Old Warden Military Pageant (30th June) Part 1:
At last, a hot and sunny airshow Sunday at Old Warden. The WWI ‘team’ featured on the crowd line, but sadly strong and gusting wind prevented them from displaying. After the show, engine runs were performed with the Avro 504K and Bristol M1C, both of which are now airworthy again:
Featured in the corner was PT-22 G-BYPY:
Opening the airshow was Phil Ansell in Yak 50 G-CBPM. Seen before with the Aerostars, his solo display was a real crowd pleaser:
Following the Yak was a much gentler demonstration, by Kirby Kite BGA310:
Visiting Slingsby Swallow BGA 3469 / XT653:
More to come……
