yep I bought a signed copy when Mr Baxter was at East Kirkby.. great read, especially as it covers not only his aviation career but also the motor racing/rallying and his involvement with the Dunkirk assoc..
Neil.
I still can’t see the East Surrey reference…

the moaner is an ex RAF Flt Lt and BMid pilot who bought his house near Kemble in 1976! ?
so what was happening at Kemble in 1976.. was that when the RAF stopped flying?? probably seemed nice and peaceful then, and it probably wasnt bad before that with the RAF only flying monday to friday and the occasional ‘night’.. now 30 years on is it ‘his fault’ that he has to put up with spam-cans goinng round n round on a weekend??
its a bit like buying a house near a local football club 30 years ago then having to ‘put up with it’ when they become a bigger club, and you cant park outside your house on a saturday and have yobs pi$$ing your garden… or that nice little bakers on the corner of your road that has now become a 24hr mini-mart and hangout for the local chavs?? just my opinion rather than just jumping on the bandwagon.. 😉
Neil.
what happened to this one that used to be on the gate at Manston..??
Neil

Like Bruce, it’s a couple of hours from here. Too far to risk getting caught up in the potential chaos. As I said, I’m an expat native so may have found a way around it but there are still a lot of natives that live around there too!
must admit I’d have probably not set out if I was making the trip from ‘up here’ but as I was already ‘darn sarf’ and had to go past the place on the way home, it was worth taking a chance.. 😉
Neil
bunch of ‘lightweights’!!!! :p 😀 😀 only problem i had was on the way home, short delay on the A1m due to an accident…
thanks for setting-up the visit Bruce..shame that other events conspired against it.. 🙁 please pass on our thanks for the hospitality, the coffee and biccies were very welcome… special thanks for the guided tour as well..sorry, didnt get the gents name, but was excellent.. its been a while since I’ve visited the place and there was lots of additions.. the history ‘maze’ is very well laid out, and its good to visit a museum thats obviously made improvements and has more on the cards… anyone who hasnt been there – make sure you do next time!
heres how the ‘toxic cloud’ looked from the museum!! 😮
