irrespective of the country of origin of the suppliers/extractor, not sure how Cameron can promise cheaper energy as the companies will sell into the most beneficial market for them? I seem to remember when north sea gas/oil was first extracted there was talk by the govts of the day of cheaper and even ‘free’ energy!

I have yet to read a coherent and scientifically led case against it. Lots of feelings, if’s, but’s and maybes, but that is it.

however a lot of the scientific cases for it i’ve seen also seem to also full of ifs’ and ‘buts’ and ‘spin’…. despite the mass of information out there, it does seem difficult for Joe Public to get an un biased opinion.

have to admit not taken much interest till now, however its suddenly a bit closer to home..

aside from the argument by the Greens that any increase in fossil fuel usage is a bad thing, from a local perspective the concerns seem to be leakage of the slurry into the aquifier/water supply, storage of the slurry and earthquakes 🙂 again each ‘side’ seem to minimise or maximise these depending on their point of veiw. it does seem to be a relatively inefficient method of extracting the gas, and apparently needs a series of bore holes, rather than the single one shown in all the illustrations.. The process also needs huge amounts of water, this has to come from somewhere and i presume up here transported from elsewhere as we seem to always teeter on the edge of drought up here..
happy to be pointed in the direction of some spin free information, as a ‘local’ rather than a rent-a-mob member 🙂

you’d hope that the teachers were using Blackadder as way starting discussions etc rather than a substitute for teaching…
