    didnt take note of details but I think its due out of CBY around 1200 and back 1255… its displaying at Pollington, not sure of the event.. copy of NOTAM below

    no this was a full routine.. a/c at either end of the display axis mirroring each other then cross-overs in the middle.. managed to make my lunchbreak coincide with it!! 😀

    ..they would also struggle with engineering support for 744 at LGW, so would only be viable if there was a destination duplicated at LHR so that they could W-pattern the a/c back to LHR for maint..

    may be a silly question but have you tried BA PR and/or website.. I know they used to have a guy called Alan Holland-Avery conme in and take publicity type photos.. just a thourght…

    great thread!

    just checked my ‘3822’ and WP805 was the first Chipmunk I flew in, 25th jan 1976.. we always seemed to go to Abingdon when it was freezing cold..

    if the weathers any good tomorrow morning (Thurs) then you’ll be in with a good chance, and if you happen to be passing around 10.30 you may see a Spitfire flying too..

    I remember seeing the 70’s replica on the water at Thorpe Park – before the place became a thenme park and was just a collection of gravel pits that was used for water skiing..

    as an anside, what were the a/c used during the filming of First Of the Few… the flying ‘action’ looks liek archive footage and studio mock ups, but there are several taxiing scenes which must’ve used full size models, or were the originals still about?
