well I’m heading back to work today so won’t have access to a PC, so hopefully I’ve got all the details I need..
see you all on Sunday, under the Lancaster, wearing an anorak, carrying a step ladder…trying to look inconspicuous!
Neil.
excellent thread chaps…
it stired me to look at the CWGC and London Gazette sites and I’ve come up with some servicemen from my home town with the same surname/spelling as me… I’ll have to quiz my Dad when he gets back from holiday, but in the mean time if you have someones service number can you do any further research..?? there are 2 RAF guys plus one Army and one RN.. the RN guy was was killed when HMS Hood was sunk…
Neil.
yep I’m still on a 56k modem connection, which I guessed may be the problem.. broadband connection?? we havn’t even got mains gas supply out here!

yep next one is the 11th Oct and includes a pyrotechnic display to simulate an airfield attack! that should wake up them chickens in the sheds!
hope its not too close to Gainsborough or else someone will steal its hubcaps!!!! 😀
in a similar fashion the EAL 747 G-BDXH has been sitting around with number 2 engine missing for a while now at LGW… presumably they don’t hold a float of spare engines so are waiting for the ‘broken’ one to be sorted out ??
Neil.
thourght I’d let you know that Just Jane looked superb tonight doing the night time taxi thing.. great.. i’ve seen her run a few times during the day but its very different in the dark.. really does give some small inkling of what it must’ve been like, just standing there imagining the noise multiplied by 50 or so, the glow of the lights, the exhaust flames, then you go inside the hangar and read about the 19 year guy who joined-up, completed his training and was killed on active duty in the space of 14 months..
anyway, on a really positive note, there were lots of people there tonight which all helps to keeping her going…
Neil.
Ta for that… so its ‘somewhere in Lincolnshire’ then… better check my back garden to make sure no one has left it there without me noticing!!! I didn’t realise that it had ben at Brooklands.. that means it must be the one I saw there on a visit years back when Autokraft opened their doors, primarily to allow us to have a look at the old bike collection…
Neil
thanks for the link.. yep looks like lots still to do.. interesting to see that they’re looking to re-use 80-85% of the original aeroplane.. the museum looks like a worthwhile visit as well.
Neil.
thanks for that.. it was probably on its way back from Fairford that he saw it.. was definately that a/c that the saw with the distinctive colours on the rudder..
I read that the DDA were havign probs getting a permit to carry pax from the Dutch CAA and that why it went down to Africa.. anyone know if that got sorted out?
Neil.
I don’t believe that you need to be a manufacturer.. one of the operators over here act as DA for some of the De Havilland jets.. however British Aerospace still hold DA for the Spitfire Hurricane don’t they ?? presumably more profitable than providing support for Concorde (yes yes I know its those French’s fault too!)
Neil.
anyone got any news on whats happening to the Herald ??
Neil.
thourght I’d try the re-sizing photo advice.. hope this works!
now heres a survivor I believe although its not currently in this state??
thanks for that.. the website is still current and they’re still open each Sunday till the end of Sept
