Spotted a C-47 or Dakota close to West Raynham yesterday (18th July) couldn’t see if it had roundels or stars & bars, could only see the Invasion Stripes, anybody see this one too?

    Whatever happened to “Buzz Buggy”…

I know what happened to my 1/48 version, but the real thing!

    T J

… ahhh but which “Buzz Buggy” T J? πŸ˜‰ The original one was still active in South America until the mid-80s and iirc one of her original WWII crew members managed to get some stick time on a visit down there, it’s one more thing on the to-do list…

My apologies for resurrecting such an old thread.

I’m trying to find a cross-reference or further information on AGS843, 851, 852, 853 and 936 tubular rivets which gives the materials for each type. While the AGS501 standard in my 1941 copy mentions the above standards it fails to mention what they were originally and which AGS501 dash-number number relates to the type it superseded.

If anybody has an earlier edition of the Brown Bros Aviation Catalogue that they wouldn’t mind having a look through I’d really appreciate it please.

That is very sad news, rest in peace Harvey. EJ693 would fly her flag at half-mast if she had one. Somewhere in the IWM archive there is reportedly gun camera footage taken on a V2 site beat-up in said machine on Harvey’s last flight in her, one of these days….

    Hello Jason,

You’re more than welcome πŸ™‚ Yes it’s the same Bob Doe, he was supposed to have been ‘resting’ at Hawarden but he chortled when telling me one story involving beer, a revolving door and any unfortunate caught in it having their trousers pinched and hoisted up the flagpole outside so I’m not sure how much resting was done!

I put the following together using the ORB and various other sources and with lots of help from Steve Brew when doing some research on AR213, unfortunately it doesn’t contain any info on Sgt Thomas but it may be of help, apologies about the formatting of the database lower down the page, I’ll try to PDF it if poss:

    # The ORB is missing the pages for October and most of November 1940. These pages cover the dates 01OCT40-21NOV40.

Β§ Of the five Officers and 30 NCOs that commenced Course 41 on 22SEP42, two Officers and ten NCOs were sent to other (unidentified) OTUs to complete their training on 03NOV42 (One such Australian pilot [Sgt. A. R. Cope] is known to have completed his training at 58 OTU, Grangemouth, Scotland). No reason for the posting of pupils on 03NOV42 is given, as the rest remained and passed out on 15DEC42.

    * The pages of these months are present in the ORB, but the courses are not mentioned by number or dates

@ Course 76 was the final course held at 57 OTU. It was β€œsuspended” on the same day that Course 75 passed out and the pupils were posted elsewhere (un-identified) to complete their courses.

    Hello Jason,

I have seen Thomas’ name in the 57 OTU ORB which I have on my backup drive, it might say where he was posted to so I’ll have a look and let you know. If it is the ‘Tommy’ Thomas I think it is then he was part of Bob Doe’s X-Flight which was the gunnery section and he certainly went on from 57 OTU to see further front-line service.

    Regards Tom

LAS and Thameside are listing most of the AGS bits you’re after. As for the Bosch genny have you tried Daniel Koblet? I should think he’d know who might be able to help.

    Hello Tony,

I believe it is actually one of the connectors from the later-type electrical TBs with the remains of the cable in still soldered into the nipples, an example of a less ‘crashed’ example here:

Strange where the serial came from…Iit is the ex ted Sinclair cockpit (tempest v) and he didn’t find the serial and had it for many years!

Hello Dave, a well known Tempest and Typhoon researcher helped to identify the aircraft as far as I know, with it being a Series 1 aircraft with the built-up rear spar that made the job somewhat easier as did the number of V1 kills

    Hello Baz,

Harry used to fly Chippies here at Booker and was quite a character from what I’ve heard! He was ‘on rest’ in 1944 at AFDU at Wittering and was pretty busy from what I can tell testing MKXIV Spits etc. I know his Son, Tim, if you like I can put you in touch? I also have scans of his logs after his time in Tunisia when he lost his earlier logs. I believe he was friends with ‘Jas’ Storrar as he used to tell a tale regarding Storrar’s Yak-9.

    Cheers, Tom

I noticed another one in the glass display cabinets in the BofB hall at Hendon a couple of weeks ago, near the .303 Browning displays.
