    RE: Digital photography question

I’ve just started archiving all my digital pics to CD myself Roger though my setup is nowhere near as ‘high tech’ as your setup. I use an Olympus C-700 ultrazoom which will produce 2mb stills which I save to CDR and allows me to save 350 to each CDR, though you’d only be able to put about 115 on each. If I had the option of saving 6mb pics I would do it, you never know what will happen, image wise, in the future and the bigger the pic the higher the quality. With CDRs so cheap at the moment it’s very inexpensive and easy to do.

BTW lovely to see the update on the Dutch Connie in FP this month, keep up the good work.

RE: Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

…what what! sorry, been exposed to too many toffs at work today 😉 I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day, Ashley, a BIG thanks goes out to you for all the hard work you put in both on the day and beforehand, and that applies to Tony D too, well done to the both of you. As for Robert, brilliant talk about my fave war film and I just loved all the info gained, did start to nod off at the end of the BofB documentary tho, ahhh that’s the late nights catching up on me. Great to put names to faces, Snapper’s comments were quite amusing 😀 should have brought the old step ladder though, just had her re-rung too, extended her to 15 steps now, I’ll be up with the big boys at Legends this year 😉

    RE: ME262 Survivors

There is another 262 in the UK, Paul Allen’s example is in Norfolk awaiting restoration once the 190 is completed, can’t wait for either!

    RE: Stuka!

It’s seen from the ground or should I say water? as the infantry in boats are being attacked while crossing the river. The camerawork is in the now trendy ‘shaky’ style and they don’t look as convincing as a real flyer would, bet they wish the russian bloke with the scale Stuka was around when they made it. The Ju88s weren’t exactly great either, the formations were a bit too uniform for my liking but I imagine that there was a limited budget so they probably have a valid excuse, don’t think they had a ‘Pearl Harbor’ budget 😉

    RE: Aircraft / Bomb Tugs

Don’t know of any myself, seen plenty of pics of Fordsons and Cases but never a TE-20, this is a new subject to me as I didn’t even know a bomb towing Fergie existed.

I agree with you about the possibility of pulling perfectly good parts out of the ground Steve, though there’s the odd exception with saltwater recoveries too and I think that there could be the odd spit or hurri sitting under a few layers of silt around the coast which could, given the right conservation techniques are used, provide some useful projects. As for the lack of reports of possible recoveries I agree with all of you in saying that it is all kept quiet until the actual recovery has taken place, I know of a few ‘sites’ and wouldn’t tell the world when there are less and less places to look for this type of material as I wouldn’t want the items getting into the wrong hands. I’m just saving up for my Magnetometer 😉

Congrats at the publication “Amy” 😉 Bloody cheeky some of these damn reporters eh? So we have a ‘scouser living in norfolk’ (said in the style of Sting in a song about some bloke in New York) in our midst, those goddam F-15’s are bloody noisy, especially when you have your radio up in your tractor and the buggers sneak up on you, it’s just not cricket old boy, they were always buzzing around Sculthorpe and RAynham when I was living at home, don’t get back as often as I’d like nowadays though. The Tempest is progressing slowly and there is lots of enthusiasm to get her in the air but a reliable powerplant is one of the obstacles to overcome yet! Here’s a link to my piccies on webshots.

Yet more good work there Snapper, well done. I work down in Bucks, currently on Kermit’s Tempest V, but I’m originally from close to West Raynham (probably where the obsession with anything plane like originated from). Aside from that, I noticed the name Lallemand in the report you posted. He is still alive so I’m informed and was a regular 609 bod, I’ll try to get some more info.

Well done Snapper, you’ve achieved lots on this subject in a very short time, highly commendable. I’m just wondering where yourself and Moggy are both from? as I’m a Norfolk lad myself and I’m always pleased to hear from others from my part of the world 🙂 If you need a hand with anything regarding the plaque I’d be glad to help one weekend as long as the wee lass will let me out 😉

    NV778

…but what was the Tempest famous for? not being a target tug that’s for certain, I’ve spoken to a few old boys who either worked on them or flew ’em and they’re not too chuffed about it being finished in such a scheme, the Typhoon in there doesn’t have any front line service history as far as I know but it is painted with Invasion stripes and quite a few other exhibits are wearing schemes not relative to the a/c history.

    THAT scheme…

I haven’t heard one person who’se happy with the proposal to have ‘778 repainted in TT.5 colours, only RAFM personnel. I think they imagine that the scheme will catch the eye of youngsters but what I want to know is why spend god knows how long restoring the thing then hide it in the rafters? Their other ‘reason’ for the decision is that they have so many a/c already displayed in standard camo, the Tempest II being one.
