Actually, the jigs are under control of a not for profit Registered Charity (No. 1165903) and the expenditure of donated funds was well within the bounds of the TPM Articles of Association, and all income and expenditures can be readily ascertained from published company accounts. You may rest assured that the jigs will remain in good hands – ours, since we bought and paid for them for the good of our project. We are NOT a commercial company, and the ownership of those jigs is quite clear; they will be used to further the construction of the first British-built Mosquito in 75 years. That should satisfy any enthusiast.

We cannot – of course – speak for any other entity. Our Articles of Association set out any financial disbursements we are allowed to make.

However, we have a robust support base, an online Journal ‘Mossie Bites’, a growing Supporter’s club and a free email newsletter, ‘The Buzz’ (which I would urge you to sign up for), and an international network of Affiliates stretching around the globe with personal connections to many other Mosquito owners and restoration groups. Not only that, but you can find us – including Board Directors and trained Volunteers – with one of our stands at most major UK airshows as well as many minor events too, where we will be happy to answer any questions; we’ll be in the Blue Zone at RIAT and also at Legends this month, for example. We even provide specialist speakers to museums, RAeSoc Branches and aviation societies around the country. We also have a stunning restoration company involved with our build (award winning, even, in the shape of Guy Black’s Retrotec) Since I am based in the USA, I deal with relationships with local societies and museums, and assisted with a regional fly-in last month over here in New England, where broadcasts were made on the local FM radio station about TPM. I think you can safely say that we are growing rapidly and have a splendid support base, technical background and a well-rounded Board. I see no reason to doubt our eventual success, and some of the comments received today on our stand at Shuttleworth, especially with regard to having a UK-built Mosquito, bear that out. bit.ly/LaunchTPM

I remember chatting about the whole Hercules issue in the hangar at Duxford one day. ‘Look the solution is simple – go out and buy a pair of Merlins, take the ‘bump’ for the Sperry autopilot off the nose, and paint the damn thing black! There’s nothing wrong with owning a Beaufighter Mk II’

Stewart Charman, the Director of Communications of The People’s Mosquito has just issued the following statement in response to several recent questions posed by Members of the Forum.

“The People’s Mosquito were offered the wing jigs by the owner, and it would have been foolish to turn down the opportunity to secure such an valuable asset. We’ll be bringing them back to the UK as soon as we can, along with our wing ribs, which are already complete.

Following the launch of our targeted fundraising campaign this month, we will continue to work with Retrotec to advance our UK-build plan, the advantages of which greatly outweigh any challenges. To this end, Guy Black of Retrotec, the world renowned aircraft restorers, will shortly be spending time with TPM’s Ross Sharp to discuss our 22,000 plus collection of Mosquito drawings, and advanced engineering planning for the project. bit.ly/LaunchTPM “

Actually, The People’s Mosquito now own (currently) the only set of jigs for a Mosquito wing – anywhere in the world. We obviously cannot speak for Avspecs future plans, but the jigs which were used to to build the wings for KA114, TV959 and PZ474, belonged to Aerowood NZ, who are in the process of winding down. We purchased them, and other valuable data associated with the build process, when they were offered to us. They will prove to be a most valuable acquisition, we think.

Following on from the news that The People’s Mosquito have acquired the New Zealand-built wing jigs (the same set of jigs used to built the wings for KA114, TV959 and every other ‘modern’ Mosquito), TPM announced the campaign to fund the targeted Front End Engineering plan, via JustGiving. Every small donation will help us put YOUR British-built Mosquito back into the air, via the superb engineers at Retrotec. Full details are here :-

Possibly an ex North Star/Argonaut, as was already said. Who knows, it might be ex Derby Airways! The 700 Series ‘transport heads’ are liked by P-51 racers, apparently. I remember seeing an ex-RCAF North Star on the tarmac at Peoria Airport in 1979. According to local sources, it had arrived in the night, with a blown engine, and the crew had run for it (possibly, it was heading south, for a shipment of ‘illicit chemical substances’).

Trouble is, I’d need TWO of these engines ! http://www.peoplesmosquito.org.uk bit.ly/TPMClub Cheers!

At the moment, TPM have made no firm basing decision. When the time comes, we will carefully assess all relevant factors, bearing in mind that one of our objectives is to make RL249 available to be seen by as many people as possible. That being said, TPM has extremely good relations with LAHC, and our first, very successful, TPM Club Members’ Day was held there bit.ly/TPMClub Ross Sharp, Director of Engineering, The People’s Mosquito
