Actually, it’s from some kind of science fiction or whatever (just friend asks about), here it’s:
“- I’m detecting massive thermal energy. I think it’s from the engine big ship
Distance: 200 Yellow: 3317 Mark: 01C Route: 0-0″
(Temperature?)
O/T
Arthur, what does code “Yellow XXXX” mean?
Thank you a lot, genlemen!
It is EXACTLY what I was searching for.
Thank you again.
I’m already horrified by the amount of references in BoB.
Next portion:
1) When the camera observes the praparations for the Invasion, one off screen voices says “I want a whiff of chicken pie.”
?
2) I know that as well as Marines, Airborne battalions consist of ~3 Comp., and Americans sighned them in alphabet system.
Is that true that Easy and Fox companies = “E” and “F”? (this question appear, because NATO codename E is “Echo”)
3) “Drill sergeants, take charge.”
drill seargeant = post?
4) And the last one for today – before the Invasion the personnel was looking film. What film were they looking?
“Well, I can’t see how you people can pass up $80,000 for the cause.”
“For whose cause? If you’re so interested in serving a cause, why don’t you join the Army?”
“cause” here means “just cause”?

Now something about Afghan war. The present day Northen Alliance is not composed of former Soviet backed communist government. The key leaders Prof Rabbani, Prof Sayyaf and Hamid Karzai were all American and Saudi backed since 1970s only Dostum is an exception.
The analysys I had half year back is something like this:
—–
USA is going for sure to increase the power in this region:
1) At least 20 positions (~45%) in Afghanistan administration occupied by loyal to Americans members – it’s a good key factor.
2) Finances – USA is the biggest donor in “loyality” and infrastructure of this region. This was the key to stability in past two years, there were no evidences that USA stop this practice.
3) Lately was announced about 10 special “groups for provinces’ reconstruction” – Department of State + CIA + civics Army Department + 50-100 Special Forces soldairs. One of them is currently helding operations in Paktia (since dec’2002). The second is planning to operate among Bamian’s Khazars, and third most likely will be put into Kunduz where CHLC working.
Since I have to mention that US politics in Afghanistan has internal contradictions. While DoS and coalition commanders trying to increase the power of pushtun’s repatriants’ government, CIA and SF commanders count on most powerful “field commanders” regardless of their feelings to official Kabul.
Interesting to notice also the real diminishing of American power: now even the anti-talib members are criticising their actions like Mohammad Zakhir-shakh did. Talibs are growing in power, in distant regions are starting new terrorists bases, and old resistants to any foreighn power like Gulbeddin Hekmatiar are taking up arms. And now the rare day ends without mortar or rocket fire toward the American and supporting forces (last day):
http://www.centcom.mil/CENTCOMNews/news_release.asp?NewsRelease=200304180.txt
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030424/ap_on_re_as/afghan_fighting_2
There are also 6 main forces, except American in this region: Russia, Euros, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and in less Turkey&Uzbekistan. If interests’ of first three forces are coincide with USA (Russia was and is the main supporter of Northern Alliance and main provider of data and information during anti-terrorist operation, India is battling the Pakistan in this region, and Euros are adding finances and stability or have some old-going interests like Germany), than three others – Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran to a greater or lesser extent support Muslim extremists. For example, Pakistanian Special Forces (righter – Pakistanian Intelligence Service) provide support in arms/data/ammunition to Taliban itself and independent fighters like Gulbeddin Hekmatiar, even despite that fact that official Islamabad don’t support them. Recently in Pakistanian North-West Border Province and Beludgistan radical Muslims won the elections and now the anti-American forces have a good bases. Saudi Arabia (with its old-going connections to mullah Omar and Extremely Right Muslim Union running by Abd ar-Rabb ar-Rasul Saiiaf in opposition to Karsai’s government supported by USA) is donating another wing of antiAmerican/antiCoalition fighters. Look at Southern-East region – they are swarming with Saudi Arabia missioners. And Iran plays an interesting role in Afghanistan – Teheranis promising $560mlns + technical and humanitarian aid to Kabul – Iranians are count on Shiites, primary in center and NW Afghanistan. In Herat city for example there is a local representative office of Guard of Islamic Revolution, while in other region Iranians supporting such gropus like “Mohammadian Fighters/Host” and “Holy Fighters”. Despite the Washington displeasure Karsai himself has a strong tights with Iran.
—–
The key difference is that all Educated Afghans backed the Soviets and all illiterate islamists were backed by Americans and still Soviet lost. The main reason is the use of Hard currency like dollar to buy loyalties which Soviet Union did not have at that time.
The key difference is that Coalition and Karsai government control only their bases and 1/2 of Kabul territory – that’s the key difference. The clan field commanders do whatever they want to do in their territory, incl. heroin cultivation. The key difference that Coalition even failed to create an Afgan Army loyal to government. The key difference that even without another superpower support Taliban and extremists leaders feel themselves fine on Afgan territory – that’s the key difference.
But still Soviets and Afghans airforce lost thousands of aircrafts to MANPADS and those were mostly to unsophisticated Blow Pipes and SA-7 derivatives.(Stinger were introduced in late 1986). For super power it is pretty pathetic performance.
?
For example 4th operation in Pandsher region – the mujahedin forces had in AA positions more than 200 DShK + ZSU + 30 Erlikon-Berle 20mm and other stuff.
I don’t recognize – whether you can’t read or can’t count on well, I don’t care – but “thousands” aircrafts exist only in your imagination.
Just for your consideration, Soviets lost:
Combat helicopters – 333
War-planes – 118
here Soviets count combat losses as well as losses on airfields (hard landing, accidents, dispatching of aircrafts on spare parts), etc.
As regards the performanvce, than USSR had in Afganistan only ONE Army – 40’th, Soviets had an excellent intelligence net, their own government, Afgan Army, and other.
I cannot even speak seriosly with person that have zero knowledge about this.

Re: troung
It seems that you have some kind of amnesia or whatever.
You don’t answer not a single question, thank you very much, since that time I had to ignore you as a troll.
Umm niether the Chechens or Afgans were sporting a modern air defense system. They were limited to light AAA and IR SAMs.
I’ve already described how was “For example 4th operation in Pandsher region – the mujahedin forces had in AA positions more than 200 DShK + ZSU + 30 Erlikon-Berle 20mm and other stuff”. Chechens had ZU-23, DShKs, different kind of MANPADS, and 20 “Shilka” system.
And Russia already lost to the Chechens once before in 1994.
Before 1994?!?!
Ouch, I was unawared that you could enter Internet nowadays even in mental hospital.
Just for your consideration – the peace treaty after first war was signed under Basaev raid to Buddennovsk, when the terrorist simply had no other option, since their resistance was completely destroyed.
Wake up the Russian air force is a pathetic shell of it’s former self. The pilots get little air time and the planes are in poor shape.
All tasks, that were given to federal Aviation Group in Chechnya were completed. For example in First war there were more than 9000 combat sorties, during which were lost 3 aircrafts – 2 Su-25 were destroyed by fire, and Su-24 that was lost during unclear circumstancies.
That’s absolutely true. But as patient of mental hospital, you have to understand that this and victories over Afganistan and Chechnya had nothing common together.
So trying to pretend like somehow they are great for dropping bombs on complelty defensless nations is a joke.
Well, Americans shall be very sorry for this.
Amazing, just amazing stuff we have here! It was the most exciting collection of BS I ever read, troung, you are excellent example of “ignorance is bliss” proverb.
First of all, you have gone from your wards far away, but I could remind you, if you forgot something:
You might notice how Russia lost Afganistan and will lose Chechnia.
And how, how Russia lost Afganistan (Russia in Afganistan is another miracle from you, but it’s not the point)?
Could you describe the facts? What tasks do USSR failed, how much forces do they destroyed? And other, other…
No that they have not paid attention to how technology has left them behind.
Yes, try to enlight us – how’s the technology left us behind?
Ever tried to read when GBs such as KAB-Xl or KAB-Xtr entered service? Or what tech do you need?
I’m sorry dropping dumb bombs on a city is a low tech way to try and handle a guerilla threat and it is not effective in the least bit at stopping a guerilla army. All that does is add to recuitment and of course make the nation doing the bombing look real bad. Dropping dumb bombs in a city does not kill the guerillas just the opposite it adds to the guerilla problem.
Excellent!
And what cities were “dumb bombed” to the ground?
Ever tried to read about Strategic and Tactical aviation in Afganistan?
Do you know tasks and outputs of Federal aviaition in Chechnya?
Or all you know is “evil Russians bombed everything to the ground” while “glory Americans win hands down with their shining guided bombs”?
At least PGMs can strike a target such as a TV station or bridge where yes people will get mad but not as mad as wiping villages of the face of the Earth becuase you cannot hit anything in any weather other then a bright sunny day. Also it is a lot more effective to use a JDAM to support ground troops then trying at it with dumb bombs and hoping to hit the rebels and avoid hitting your own troops. Maybe Russia does not care about killing it’s own troops as long as they can bomb a village full of women and childern in responce.
Oh, what a problem – for example, in Chechnya in December there were in average only 2 (read the lips – two) bright sunny days, while aviation should control aerospace, did strike missions, and do all other stuff. It’s a miracle, troung, I tell you – it’s a miracle!
Another one miracle is direct support with JDAMS and other stuff against highly manoeuvrable targets, tell the Americans – they should really hire you as military adviser – hell, you can be rich after all.
And you know here we come to another miracle – the TV station and bridges were destroyed by laser-guided bombs like KAB-1500L (from Su-24M), guided rockets and other guided munitions. It seems that it was Americans flying over Chechnya, oh no!
And the last one -it’s a pity that Dudaev himself didn’t here you – he was been dispatched with guided rocket, what a pity he couldn’t answer!
Oh yeah and Russian equipment was in the Desert Storm and it failed miserbly the same way it failed in Serbia.
Ah, you mean that amazing 60’th-era airdefence and the country that was almost killed by sanctions. As was mentioned the Serbs didn’t … hell if you can’t remember this try to learn by heart, if this will not help, go to local doctor – I’m sure you could find one.
Bad comparison. The North Vietnamese had a real military unlike the Afgans. There was a North Vietnamese navy, air force and army. The Afgans were religous students from muslim nations with much less training and equipment.
Why don’t you compare the numbers of Soviet contingent in Afganistan, and American in Vietnam. tell us also about much less training in Pakistan camps!
Compare the preformance of the Russian air force in delibartly targeting civilains and then compare that to the USAF/USN with it’s all weather ability. Note that America has beaten Afganistan and air power played a huge role. And American air power in Afganistan is a lot better then what the Russians did. And before you comment that it was years later remember that Russia has only gotten weaker since then.
Quoting GarryB:
“Bsh!t. The Soviets held more towns and cities than the US does at the moment. American airpower would have been useless if they hadn’t had the Northern Alliance on the ground. The NA forces moved into an area… the taleban could either mass up into a force to defend or it could retreat. If it massed up then it was bombed with airpower. If it retreated then the NA moved forward and gained more land and recruits. Without the NA there would be no reason for the Taleban to mass and therefore there would be no targets for the b52s. The Airpower would be useless.”
It’s absolute true.
I have a friend of mine, specialist in Afganistan matters, that recently was here – the only thing Americans control are they own bases, they have no intensive losses only because the most of them sit on they own a$$, doing nothing with extremists, doing nothing with heroin plantations.
A good deal of helicopters have gone down taking the crews and passengers with them.
I think you refer to single Mi-26 that was fly against restricted rules…
And about that fascinating “Black HawkS down” soap opera that we saw in Iraq?
Screw it I’m just too lazy to respond to the rest of your pro Russia crap. Keep living in a fantasy that Russia is military power and not a pathetic shell of a nation.
Ah, well here is the answer – you’re not lazy, you’re just an…not-so-clever person.

Slightly O/T, but you give us something absolutely new here.

dont understand that.. could you please explain?
The Anti Missile System USA are creating, will be capable in intercepting of non-massive strike with monobloke ICBMs like in possibly NK possession, Pakistan, early China design (DF-5/4) or that India trying to create.
So this is real threat to those, who possess monobloke ICBMs in little numbers.
So, China with DF-5 and DF-4 will be really annoyed with this system (but sooner or later DF-31 shall appear), that’s also pre-emptive strike on India and North Korea programs.

Does anybody know what’s the current status of the mighty Su-35 Flanker, I mean the Russian Air Force is still planning to buy it, or the plan is dead?
It seems now there are about 9 fully functional aircrafts: 5 in VVS possession (Russian Knights, 703, 712, 86, 87, 88), plus 4 in OKB and GLIIC on tests (708, 709, 710 and TS 801).
Looks like there were more than 12 machines, 711 crashed, 701 in Monino, something like
1) 701, 702, 705, 706, 707 – preproduction batch, converted from pure, but unfinished Su-27.
2) 704 – static prototype
3) 703, 708, 709, 710, [711] è 712 – preserial batch
4) 86, 87, 88 – built in KnAAPO, 1996 serial
5) Twinseater Su-35UB
Another question: Does anybody know a Site that I can download any Su-35 Air Demo in any Air Show?
I suppose soon

It couldn’t be abandoned, since there is no any Su-32FN in reality.
It’s T-10V.
Ok, thanks. the next portion:
1. “- He came to see you the other day right before he was tagged. What did you talk about?
– The Mets. John doesn’t think they have a deep enough pitching roster this year, and I’m inclined to.”
I understand he meant baseball team “New York Mets”, right?
But does “they have a deep enough pitching roster this year” means “they lack of pitching players” or “this pitching players aren’t good enough”?
2. “federal housing” – what’s this? Real estate in possession of government? or some kind of houses for “poor people”? Are there any other kind of housing like municipal?
