I don’t know how the RNHF are really doing with VR930 ,from what I read on here it seems to be a lot more temperamental than TF.956 and WG.655 used to be,

Not sure where you’re getting this impression from? Since the engine was rebuilt in 2004 and the fuel issue sorted the engine has (touch wood) performed almost faultlessly. Indeed so far this season there has only been one engine-related unserviceability which occurred in Northern Ireland last month and was traced to water ingress into the ignition system during what was an exceptionally wet weekend. IIRC this is the first missed display through any unserviceability remotely connected to an engine problem since the Centaurus was rebuilt – quite some achievement when you consider that these are incredibly complex pieces of machinery at the zenith of piston engine technology and are also old with spares at a premium.

…but maybe we all just get more news via these sites than was available when the other RNHF Furie were operational.

Which is why you shouldn’t always believe what you read – especially if it’s not from the horses’ mouth! 😎

One question…is the cockpit interior colour scheme original?Doesn’t look very ‘British Military’

Nope – Americanised! Yuk! WHY do they insist on doing that?? That and the F102 brakes/wheels and grey prop blades really spoils this otherwise superb restoration. If only it had been put back 100% original!

…. the absence of the ……Sea Hawk (presumably u/s?)…..

The Sea Hawk was there – on static. She’ll be flying very soon.

Its a brilliant paint scheme and nice colours thank you for keeping her flying, Whats happening about this two seater Sea fury the RNHF have hold off? Will it be flying next year at Airshows with it sister ship?

Yes, hopefully next year will be a busy year for RNHF with both Sea Furies, the Sea Hawk and the Swordfish all back on strength for a full season.

……the Sea Fury left Aldergrove for home yesterday afternoon.

….and is currently safely tucked up in the hangar back here. I thought you said you’d cleaned her???!!!:p Only kidding – thanks on behalf of the guys for all the help you gave them during their stay in sunny NI. Apparently your Bader and Merlin helicopter impressions are something to behold (or was that “avoid”?):D

Having helped clean her in the past its not a job I’d envy! That oil gets absolutely everywhere!!

You’ll probably know more than me if you’ve been there today – all I know is apparently an oil pressure problem but the guys flew out there first thing this morning courtesy of a Heron Flight Jetstream and she’ll hopefully be ground run tomorrow.

Glad you like the paintscheme though – would have been nice to have seen her at Eglinton (where she was shore-based in that scheme nearly 60 years ago!).

The 26th is correct as per the Display Page – W-s-M have a small air display before the start of Helidays.

Placing the aircraft on loan to RNHF would not automatically qualify it for Crown indemnity. Without going around this buoy again, everyone wants to see the Sea Vixen continue to fly – no doubt about that. But sadly life isn’t quite a simple and convenient as we would all like it to be.

    A vastly complex issue.

The last we heard is that if no sponsor is found, she will be stored there.

I don’t know where this rumour started but as far as I know there isn’t (and never was) any substance to it whatsoever.

She does indeed look very good – I had the opportunity to “inspect” her as we buzzed the Museum in the Chipmunk on the way to ‘Weald last Sunday 😀

Whats more is I hear that the Comet is going to get an RAF sceme as well:mad:

Well at least that’s more appropriate for this particular machine, being the former XM823. She never was with BOAC (she’s originally a former Air France Mk.1A).

It was never owned by Newark,

It was in fact owned by The Mosquito Museum at one point, before we traded her to Barry Parkhouse. Prior to us owning it, it was with an ATC in London somewhere. We never moved it to London Colney.

    Bruce

Correct. I went down to ATC at Southgate back in 1990 to recover bits and pieces for D-IFSB. She disappeared soon after and, as Bruce says, never went to London Colney.

I sent a period photo of one of the Bristow Whirlwinds in this scheme to one of your members who was asking about suitable schemes to paint the aircraft in – do you know if it was used to base the scheme on? Quite agree that it looks nicer than the much later scheme.
