Ah, busted!! 😉 Actually I noticed this in summer 2004, and when we checked with a ruler it turns out the centre red dot on the starboard side is a whole 2″ bigger diameter than the port! Don’t blame RNHF, though – they didn’t paint it!

So well done everyone! Good to see you’re paying attention! 😀 Don’t worry, when she gets refinished (no, there aren’t any plans as yet) it will be corrected.

Though the RN do give a degree of financial support, it certainly isn’t on the same scale as the BBMF.

Swordfish LS326 hasn’t flown for several years now, and W5856’s last season was in 2003. Both aircraft have been grounded since then due to suspected corrosion in the wing main spars. Work has concentrated on LS326, which has been completely re-wired in the meantime, and the engine currently fitted to W5856 will be fitted to LS326 later this year when the wings have been returned from Brough where they have been completely refurbished thanks to BAES. W5856’s wings will follow suit.

More details on the Flight can be found at the website.

What’s all the fuss about it’s just another Spitfire isn’t it? 🙂

😮 😮 And how many times are we going to hear airshow commentators come out with that blooper this year then eh?

Big up to the Kennet team for showing that there ARE aeroplanes other than those formerly operated by the RAF worth restoring!

    FLY NAVY, eat Crab! 😀

😮 Flying Legends it is! Altered accordingly. I’ll berate the General Manager for sending me duff gen!

Hopefully the list will be fully amended (and checked!!) later this week.

    Thanks for the comments guys!

What’s happening on the Isle of Wight on July 30th?
    Is it a private event?

Cowes Week I believe. The displays programme is still very much in the melting pot and will hopefully be finalised this coming week when everyone is back from the London Airshow.

If you’re looking for little things though, is Flying Legends now called Fighter Meet? 😉

Not according to the Duxford website itself.

Ah, you spotted the deliberate mistake to see if someone was actually reading it!! 😀

    Duly corrected! 🙂

Thanks Don. As I say, there are still a few glitches to iron out, and the issue of the News page having to scroll to the right is something we’ve already identified as needing attention.

Keep re-visiting! Hopefully we’ll have something sorted soon.

Yes, thankfully I know the current owner (via a friend) and I’m hopefully going for a look around the old tower and airfield this coming week to get some photos before anything happens to it.

847 Sqn ‘A’ Flt to South Atlantic in Engadine 10 May 1982. Transferred to 845 Sqn detachment in the Falklands before departing for the UK in MV Astronomer 14 Nov 1982.

Working on the companion volume to “Fleet Air Arm Fixed-Wing Aircraft Since 1946” (Air-Britain) at the moment, covering all FAA Rotary-Wing types, and all Wessex histories will be contained therein. Hopefully will be available sometime next year.

    Thanks Damien.

Bruce – from the depths of my memory wasn’t the spinner on WP790 originally Pat Fillingham’s from an entry into the King’s Cup Air Race? Seem to recall Dave H mentioning that once upon a time when he was explaining about carrying out the first restoration during the 1970s. Or it may have been on it originally but subsequently robbed for a flyer (which I also remember him telling me about).

Glad to see she’s going back in her Birmingham UAS scheme and that the temptation to go for more run-of-the-mill colours was resisted! 🙂

The last Chippy in Fleet Air Arm service – WK608 of the Royal Navy Historic Flight, Yeovilton, photographed by yours truly over the Somerset levels last month.

First photo I ever took of a Chipmunk, a very damp and murky BAe Hatfield open day in 1983. Not into collecting aircraft numbers, hence, I’ve no idea of the aircraft’s serial.

Looks like WP790 to me (Mosquito Aircraft Museum, as was). See Bruce’s earlier post with pic of her ‘nude’.
