What problem are you referring to?

Looking at this, I find myself wondering if anyone looked into doing a Mosquito style, wooden constructed, lightweight, single engined fighter during the war. The Mosquito being the success that it was, it looks like a no brainer.
I suppose the La-7 of the Russians was the closest.

Miles rushed a fixed gear, merlin powered 12 gun fighter out as a contingency in case of a lack of numbers of spitfires or hurricanes called the M20 but it was decided it wasn’t needed. I’d like to see a replica of that floating around

Congratulations on carrying on with the important and incredible work you are doing regardless of the slap in the face you have been given, completing the next few diary entries will be a useful record of your perseverance and that you have kept up the standard of work. I really hope common sense prevails and you are allowed to continue with bringing an example back to a complete airframe as I would love to see one.

Actually you’re right, it does. And although I’m sure you were joking, that’s the best possible explanation so far.

Nope the plan has been to change the logo for a while, so no august’s events were not the cause for the change as far as I know. As I said earlier it is to tie the two attractions together as shuttleworth isn’t just an aircraft/vehicle museum and I really hope more people come to visit both sites.

I like the new logo which was unveiled on hangar 2 back in time for the air race airshow, the metal is partially burnished and so doesn’t look shiny and new and most importantly it can be viewed as a rotary engine with wings or a flower between two slopes tying in both attractions on site. Both of these views have been stated to me by visitors and yes men normally see the engine, women the flower but not everytime. The Bird of Prey centre has been gone for nearly two years but insist on still trading on their “near Biggleswade” location and for some reason the brown signs still haven’t been updated by the local council. I believe a change may be happening with the website soon and the new logo will then be carried across all the formats.

I hope they make an early decision to help those who have to travel.

The airshow will go ahead tomorrow as the management would be mad to cancel it 24 hours ahead as there is always a chance the weather will allow flying to take place. There will be plenty to see on the ground and I’ll be there from 8 o’clock getting the exhibits out so I look forward to seeing any of you who take a chance and come. If you are worried about the conditions then you have seen the forecast so if things don’t work out try to understand a lot of work and effort have gone in to organising the show so no one wants to see all that wasted.

    see you tomorrow

Broadly speaking, that is probably the best policy in the event of a mishap.

It is not some ‘cover up’ conspiracy. It is just that no good can realistically come from spotters/historians/enthusiasts et al castigating pilots for their prowess, but plenty of ill-feeling can be generated.

Very true words, the comments about ‘rough’ running of the engine are incorrect the black smoke and popping and farting were due to the triplane with a much more powerful engine having to slow up on the inside turn of a formation with a slower aircraft, only post I’m putting up about this as really fed up recently with ‘experts’ on this forum talking out of their orifices.

    My opinion as an individual.

Great pictures David, when we returned with the jeep from a local event we were asked to do a bit of fuelling on the Austers and so naturally abused our position 🙂 I was impressed by the number of Austers which turned up it was refreshing to see them grouped together for pictures as well.

Steve, I’m not quite sure the angle for quoting against my comment

No agenda to quoting just found it amusing people make a big thing on forums about typo’s but don’t contact the people who made the mistake, maybe you have, maybe you haven’t, just an observation.

Official statements are usually written from notes by someone not directly involved so never a surprise when they’re slightly incorrect.

Lovely pictures David I was surprised at how big the aircraft was fully assembled but it fitted nicely in hangar 3

    It does indeed look silly.
However as it does specifically mention reference to Flying Legends show, clearly someone has not fully read what has been posted prior to posting and avoid their own embarrassment. Perhaps whoever it is doesn’t suffer from embarrassment.

Why does everyone need to try and look clever the IWM statement says “In preparation for the Flying Legends Air Show and The Duxford Air Show,” and so covers both legends and the earlier show are you sure they haven’t just put it back up to inform people? Yes could be better worded but maybe they couldn’t afford the back office staff due to a lack of money taken through the gate?

Free loading is a big pet hate of mine I attend lots of events during the year and even pay to take exhibits to certain shows as I wish to see them continue, but why do people really think it is their right to stand on other peoples property and not put any money back towards the sight they are obviously enjoying?

Just my personal view but I’m with Farmer Giles in thinking it must go both ways or if it’s against one person’s property is that not fair?

    Cheers

    Steve
