The fate of British civil aviation industry hangs in the balance. Send for………..a Bae146!!!!!!! The only aircraft were the air contamination INSIDE the aircraft is worse than the contamination on the outside!!!
I remember when Mount St Helens erupted, The Met reserch flight Herc (Snoopy) was sent to the States and was flying THROUGH the volcanic plume within days.

Iam sure the lad that rebuild the Mancester Trident said on here a while ago that ,there was a Trident sim either at the airport or being brough there.

Neil will be pleased that you class him as a “Lad” (He’s a doddering old sod in reality)
The “Boy” Neil had to dispose of the Trident sim after he left the AVP. He is still a font of all Trident knowlage but is working on another Trident shaped project.

To be fair, CKing, the Jury’s Inn isn’t all that bad. Myself and forum geek Adam Spalding spent a night there last year and it was OK.

A romantic night in the Jurys cannot compare with three seperate weeks on your own looking at your course notes and thinking about opening them.!:D

Ahhh hang on a second though… We were drinking really rather a lot. That could explain it!

Drink is the answer, drink to forget

That said, I remember one of the corridors was a real mess… After we had an ice fight down there at 1am while drunk… πŸ˜€

    Yes you woke me up!!!!

THE JURYS INN!!!!!! Are you staying there long? I spent three seperate weeks there whilst on a course at LHR. IT’S AWFUL!!!!!! Like I imagine a prison cell would feel like.
    The most important info is.
    Come out of the hotel.
Turn right along the Duel carridge way
    Walk towards Hatton Cross
When you get to the traffic lights cross the duel carridge way, away from Hatton Cross
That road then leads away from Hatton Cross and bears left, follow it
On your left is THE GREEN MAN!!!!!!
Enter it and drink enough to dull the memory of the grim hole, The Jurys inn!!!!!

Bruntwood park by any chance, Lance?
I have had the heads up about an Etihad 777 doing the normal service on monday. I know it’s not that exciting, especialy because they will be going to 777’s from the middle of next month. But a heads up any way.
Oh they threw an A340-500 in yesterday on a divert.

Had a look today and most of them were variations on the “Hose down the front” method I used on a A340 once. Except the Trent. That required quite a few pressure sensors disconnecting and gagging the fan. THEN spraying the stuff down the core.
There is a firm called Juniper who make engine wash kits too. (Google is my friend)

The 737 has always suffered from elevatotor vibration caused by the tabs. What is curious about this is that the FAA have issued an alert about it. It was the norm that at the first report of “Buzzing” from the elevators we used to go up and check the play in all the tab mechanism, bearings, castings actuator rods the lot. Inevitably it was one or the other. I THINK it’s the first step in the Fault isolation manual for it too.

We use to follow the navy’s maintenance schedule for the helicopters at Farnborough. Obviously due to operating small engines in a salt laden atmosphere the navy were quiet concerned with dirty compressors.
We used to spray detergent, followed by demineralised water and then a water displacement fluid into the front of the Gnomes, whilst we spun the engine over on the starter. With the Seaking the dirty water (Stop sniggering at the back) used to poor down the side of the fuselage and make a mess. With the Wessex due to the nose down angle of the engine, the dirty water would poor back through the compressor onto the floor.
Since joining the airlines I have only washed a compressor twice. Neither time was part of scheduled maintenance. I have never seen anyone else doing it either. That might just be me not being in the right place though. When I return to work I shall look in the maintenance manuals and report back.

An interesting side effect of all of this for me was having to write the word “Volcanic” in aircraft’s tech logs. NEVER in my thirty two years in the industry have I ever had to do that or imagine that would have to either!!!
Yes we are doing special checks for the stuff and no we havn’t found any or any suspected damage caused by the stuff.
The rumour mill has been working overtime though. Every time a cowl is opened we hear that “The XXXX’s engines are full of it” Only to see the thing fly away with passengers about an hour later!!!
We all still Boo when the Iceland Air 757’s come in:D

Did you see the genius in one of the papers earlier in the week asking whether the flight restrictions only applied to economy class or whether business class passengers were affected, too?

It was quoted again on Have I Got News For You last night. πŸ˜€

This wasn’t an isolated incident. I was speaking to a rep of one of the airlines I deal with at MAN and she said she had several people ask that!!!

Lindylou. Thanks for all the up dates

Pity they could not double up on one flight and send in a A380.

It would have put Emirates nose out of joint a bit, considering all the hype they had had for being the first 380 operator into MAN!

Like I mentioned, the Airbus aircraft I have worked on have the various covers stored inside the aircraft and fly with the aircraft. The B737/B757 I have worked on have had the covers come from the store – I don’t know if that is a Boeing thing or not.

CKing would know more about the bigger Boeings than me. πŸ™‚

    See above post:D!!
All of them come with a set of covers. Most never see the light of day, going straight to stores.
