As for Historic Aviation, I doubt that I shall ever make any money out of it.

That is one thing you might have heard before. The BIG money is in the big airline industry. Money should not be your main aim AT THE MOMENT but in a few years time you will want to settle down so it will be then.
A friend of mine got involved with historic aviation during one of the many aviation employment slumps. After five years of working all hours for buttons he tried to leave it and found out that the airlines would not look at him.
He was told he had”No relevent experience” His HNC and apprenticeship counted for nothing! Be warned! 🙁

Shouldn’t this thread should be brought to ‘heel’, or at least ‘bend the knee’.

Not while we are still getting a kick out of it.

I worked on 405 when I was an apprentice back at Farnborough. In fact I helped make the false rear spar between the aft part of the wings.
Nice to see that it will be near Manchester I will come over to visit it when it arrives!

Just a working set for instructional purposes.

That’s a great idea. Some people are unaware of the dangers of the HE igniter system.
I saw a Goblin igniter set off outside the combustion camber once. Our instructor had put a Perspex cage around the plug. It blew it across the room!

Why on earth are we getting so animated about it? Personally, I’m delighted to see a Spitfire going to Pima. It’s a very, very good home for it. It remains on RAF Museum charge, and can always come back. Perhaps Pima, and other American museums will help fill some of the gaps over here.

Well said Bruce. Pima is one of the best museums in the world. I am glad that the RAFM are lending them a Spitfire, I wish they had given them a Vulcan, Victor, Buccaneer, VC10 and a Nimrod. Britain has plenty of Spitfires. Giving one that is hidden from view to Pima will not rob us of anything. Don’t forget to Joe Public a Spitfire is a Spitfire, he doesn’t care if its a MK1 or a MK97.6IV.

The money in aircraft engineering is in the airlines. As a young person that will be important. If you cant get into it straight away, bite the bullet, try the RAF. A bit of ********* round but very good training, then join an airline. If you want to work in historic aviation, volunteer!

I’m looking at the Part Alpha numerical index for the 777 at the moment. The SG5773-1 number is not listed in it.
Other forums are saying it is part of a Japanese rocket.

They have a bunch of sprung loaded carbon brushes mounted on the engine, close to the propeller shaft. These contact slip rings fitted to the back of the propeller hub.

    Tomcat VIP:

Plz clarify for the audience: How many of the so called ‘black boxes” are on an AB 320 1990 model/Newer models?? Is the data of the FDR recorded in a separate box??

There are two “Black boxes” A Cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and a flight data recorder (FDR) They are mounted together at the back of the aircraft. Both recorders are similar in construction with the data being recorded in highly strengthened sections of each recorder. The FDR records about 25 hrs of data and the CVR records between half an hour to two hours of radio, intercom and ambient flight deck noise.

As you can probably guess when the FDR is analysed they can filter out a lot of the background noise so that is probably how the co pilots breathing was picked up.

A lot of the switches and knobs in the flight deck have distinctive clicks when operated and can be recognized by an experienced 320 crew. The click of the door lock is quite distinctive and the rate of climb/decent knob on the mode select panel clicks as it is rotated.

As for the rapid released of information. A lot of it has been leaked so that has forced their hand. Also the lack of information in the Malaysian Airlines case has cause so much pain for the relatives and created allsorts of bizarre conspiracy theories that, perhaps the French decided to avoid all of that. Mind you some people are still trying!

Will this parameter be recorded in the FDR when found??

The door lock key pad is not linked to the FDR so, no.

There is also a queue of youngsters that will pay for their own training and then fly for peanuts. Behind them are more youngsters that will fly for even less. Glad I’m an engineer!
