I seem to remember that in that film the hero was climbing about above in the roof space above the passenger cabin and then he found his way into the cargo hold by some ducting……You know what I’m going to say!!!
You could get into the roof space but only by taking a roof panel out. Not easy to do without being seen. You can’t do that in a toilet either as they are sealed units.
Getting into the freight bay is also difficult. Access can be gained from the forward avionics bay but the hatch for that is in the middle of the forward cabin.BUT the door from the avionics bay opens into the cargo bay. If you have a can in there it won’t open. Access to the rear freight would involve removing seat rows and floor panel.
There is no man sized ducting between the two either.
My wife hates watching any film with aircraft in it with me!!!:D

The First PSA one’s ended up at LTU. They tried everything to get passengers to fly in the lower lounge but as it was just a windowless box, they failed. Also, in the charter operation the passengers carried more luggage and without the front freight bay they had trouble getting all the bags on board. So they removed it.

I seem to recall a ladder and a hinged roof panel in the main lower galley area too, in case Both lifts packed up. It was a long time since I worked on them though!.

Weren’t the galleys down below on the L-1011’s and the lifts used mostly to send food trolleys up and down?
It was used for both galley carts and people un like the 747 that is only for carts.
The Tripestars lifts were only just big enough for my svelt like frame;) to fit in.When you were in side it there were two handles at about waist height that you had to hold onto and a toggle switch on each that you had to operate at the same time to make it go. Once you had squeezed in and selected down it was then you found out there were no inner doors:eek: and you had very little distance between you face and the aircraft stucture.
Once down below the galley area was like a ballroom! I’m six foot tall and could walk around without stooping as well. There were two seats down stairs for the cabin crew but they were not supposed to be down there during landing. The catering was loaded directly into this area by a door in the right hand side forward of the wing.
This area also contained the potable water compressors. These had a drive belt that would fail regularly and if you realy tried, changing the belt could take all night;).

My contacts within BA tell me that the uniform policy said that all necklases must be worn UNDER the uniform and that ALL non-issue badges were banned
Necklesses for H&S reasons and the badges for smartness.
BA goes out of it’s way to cater for the religious requirement of its staff with uniform turbans and head scarfs but all staff must be kept safe and look tidy.
The contact also tells me that there was more to this story than the cross;)

All modern jet airliners have fuel/oil heat exchangers. Every daily check the fuel tanks are checked for water contamination. Water in the fuel system and fuel “waxing” is known about and delt with by both of the previous things.
If this was a problem with ice in the fuel, why didn’t all the 777’s flying into Heathrow that day do the same thing?

I still like the IFE screens in the pointy bit. 🙂
Once you are in the cruise the EICAS is a bit boring. Eaven I would want something more for In Flight Entertainment!;)

P.S. have you noticed the amount of facial hair in the flight deck!!!!
I did the same thing, had to do a double-take. The fan is still to be fitted, the picture is from the rear looking forward.
Yes, your right it looked all wrong to me.
Google is my friend!!

GENx
Is it the angle that the photo was taken or hasn’t it got the fan fitted?
Rgds Cking
Edit: Ive just Googled it and it has got the fan fitted it’s just got a HUGE rear end
Looks pretty good.
What engne is that?

Oooops! Normally, if the tailskid cartridge is crushed, there is an indication in the cockpit and the flight must be discontinued.
Not on the 767.
The 767’s tail skid oleo has a pre charge of compressed nitrogen in side it. It is extended and retracted with hydraulic pressure. When the skid is compressed. Hydraulic fluid is forced through a metered orifice into a transfer reservoir. The Nitrogen pre charge acts as the shock-absorbing medium.
There is no indication of a tail strike in the flight deck but there is a Tail skid annunciator light and an EICAS warning for a tail skid position “Disagree”
The tail skid assembly has a sacrificial “Shoe” made of light alloy on its end. That is the primary indication of a tail strike. If they are having a bad day and they compress the oleo enough it will push out a over pressure “Pop out” indicator on the oleo its self. If there day goes from bad to worse there are shear pins between the oleo and the structure so that the oleo can be ripped clean out of it’s mounts. (Hydraulic fuses prevent you dumping the entire centre system contents in that case)
The 737-400 has a crushable cartridge. It is always extended and it’s indication is confined to a green and red stripe painted on it!
The 777-300 typically has a combination of both. It has a tail skid “Disagree” light and message, a tail strike proximity warning and a tail strike indication warning in the flight deck!!! (I love the 777 to bits but boeing did over complicate it in parts!)

Also where in your opinion is best to sit – window, side aisle, centre aisle, upstairs/downstairs, etc?Cheers!
DON’T GO UPSTAIRS ON THE A340!!!!!!!!!!:D

Billions of dollars spent on computers and wind tunnels but they still can’t beat the old ways!

Ahem… as the resident white van driver in here… i think you will all find the 747 had no place being there…since the white van was there first…simple common rules of the road!!!:dev2::dev2:
Who had his two fingers up first????;)
