I’m glad it wasnt just me having issues uploading pictures. The two of us from Gatwick Aviation Museum had a good day, we brought a selection of parts, panels and instruments to sell and after a slow start did rather well. We even managed to pick a few bits ourselves including a section of Firestreak missile which will go with our Lightning display.
It was nice to chat to everyone and there were a number of people who were unaware of us or that the museum still continued after Peter Vallances passing.
Thank you very much to all the organisers and we hope to see you again next time.

Do you know which size of coupling you require, also are you after just the seal or the whole back shells, rings, clips, heatshields etc?

    Good evening Martin,

We at Gatwick Aviation Museum would like to help out if possible. Our Sea Hawk has a complete but very opaque canopy that we have been trying to source a replacement for, perhaps you could use ours as a template and we could as Gate guards to make two of them up helping us both out. Let me know if you would like to talk about this and I can put you in touch with our museum manager.

Do you have the part number or section ref off of the valve at all and I will run it through our database.

Things are progressing well for the opening of the new museum and we can now publish that we will reopen on the Easter weekend Friday 25th – Monday 28th. Please come and support us, although we must remind everyone that this is just the start and there are several years worth of work to do to some of the airframes and likely a year to perfect the displays etc, but we hope you will come back and see the development. It is all work in progress in the new era for GAM.

The current group of runners will be housed in taller section of the building by the main doors so they can be pulled straight out. Some aircraft may require others to be moved to be taken out, though this is a price we are willing to pay to have finally managed to get them undercover.

The size and design of the building was heavily dictated to us by what the local authorities would actually approve planning for but we are very focused on making it work for us.

We are still very committed to be a running museum and hope once we are settled in to complete the rest of the preparation work and finally fire up the lightnings engines for the first time.

Long term there are a couple of the runners that will need some in depth work that they have been in need of and we hope to bring some of the other airframes not previously live back to a runnable condition. After all it was Peters main promoting point that many of the aircraft were capable of being run, something we very much agree with. From an education and training point of view this is very important too.

It will take the team time to get settled in, unpack and see how best to have exhibits laid out to show them to there full potential and when we open it will be very much a work in progress but we will get there in time, after all Peters fight for a building spanned many decades a few more months to get things right aren’t bad.

Yesterday saw a great achievement at Gatwick Aviation Museum, after many years our aircraft have finally started to come indoors. With great thanks to Bill Turnbull (WV-903) in supplying a new nose wheel assembly it was very fitting that the first aircraft to be towed in was our Hawker Sea Hawk, Peter Vallance’s first purchase in the collection. Without Bill’s help we would not have been able to achieve this and we are greatly thankful.

Below are a couple of pictures of the tow, or please visit https://www.facebook.com/Gatwick-Aviation-Museum-183094805077755

    Hi Graham,

I was hoping to find some parts manuals in particular as it seems to be made up from quite a bunch of oddities. Just rebuilding the wheel brake cylinders has shown parts from a MK1 Lotus Cortina. Do you have any pictures of your restored example?
