You know, if you change the country and location names in that article it makes a lot more sense 😀
What do you mean?
An update. I just spoke to their lead analyst to whom I finally got through. He said to me that Forecast International has not published any report on Pakistan Air Force and Rafale EVER. He said that the only recent story they broke was that Gripen would be DENIED to Pakistan by the Swedish Parliament. He said that he would ask his legal department to contact Pakistan Observer if they are referring to his organization. He noted that the report talked about a “magazine” called Forecast International which they don’t publish. In any case, they have the copyright on the “Forecast International” name so they would like to know from the paper who they are referring to as a source.
Looks like Ms. Alam is being taken for a ride or is misusing the good name of Forecast International.
US elections draweth near.
This is pipsqueak for that purpose. A greater likelihood is that this is setting the stage for Musharraf’s visit to the US in two weeks. What better way to ask for F-16s than by bombing 70 tribals to bits… :diablo:
I’d hate to nitpick but just days ago Pakistan angrily denied that there are ANY terrorist camps in its territory, including the Afghan border:

Pakistan rejects US media reports on terror training camps
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday rejected US media reports that Al Qaeda training camps had been revived along its border with Afghanistan. “There are no terrorist training camps in any part of Pakistan,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan. “Pakistan is opposed to terrorism in all its forms and has taken all the necessary steps to eliminate this threat.”
US news channel CNN quoted unnamed US sources saying that overhead surveillance of the porous frontier between Pakistan and Afghan showed vehicles and people moving to known Al Qaeda training sites. Masood Khan dismissed the report saying that Pakistan would not allow use of its territory for subversive purposes by the Al Qaeda network. He said the recent arrests of high profile Al Qaeda operatives vindicated Pakistan’s resolve to rout out the menace. “Recent interdictions underline and substantiate Pakistan’s resolve to move against terrorists from any part of the world who may be using Pakistan soil,” the spokesman said. afp
Vikas,
Yes Kamran Khan is a stringer for Washington Post. He is basically a retired Pak Military Intelligence officer, MI not ISI.
Hi google
There was a report filed in October 2003 ish. Maybe I’m confusing JDW with some other Jane’s publication or even Defense News.
Let me check up my DN archives too.
Thanks
Dudes,
Pakistani reporters, like their Indian counterparts cannot tell a Tank from a Tandoor oven. If we start parsing any report, you’ll find 2000 mistakes.
I see Reuters confirming it and that is good enough for me.
Reuters has confirmed it. So let’s assume this deal is a shoo-in for now. Too much smoke to be without fire.
Wait for Google to look it up from JDW. I was talking about a report from JDW last year when India signed the Phalcon deal.
I posted the Dawn report because it was by Rahul Bedi who also filed the JDW report.

India’s acquiring the Israeli Phalcon airborne early warning system, which can track up to 60 targets over an 800 km radius
IIRC Jane’s Defence Weekly in October 2003 also had the range as 800 km. Google can confirm it, if true.
But hey, they may be biased too 🙂

The Phalcon radar, developed jointly by the US and Israel, can simultaneously track up to 60 targets over 800 km radius to support defensive and offensive operations.
Maybe you are predisposed to believing whatever PAF gets is better.

Maybe Phalcon has a detection range of zero if it makes you feel happier.
350 km for Erieye, 800 km for the Phalcon
Compare the ranges of the platforms first
