Five Sea Kings plus a Merlin flying west along the Eastcliff at Bournemouth on their farewell tour prior to being retired. What a glorious sight and sound………………
Fifty years ago today, 15th May 1965, my school friend Moggy and myself went to the Biggin Hill Airfair. A pair of 14 year old lads mad on aircraft we stood in line to pay 2/6 (12.5 p) to walk through the Lancaster, just arrived from Australia. What a thrill, climbing over the mainspar in the middle of the cabin a standout memory, 2/6 was probably a weeks paper round wages but well worth it.
That day I made my first flight, paying £1for a 5 minute air experiance flight on DH Heron G-AOGO operated by Morton Air Services.
If it hadn’t been for this thread I would have missed this small aniversary……………….thanks for the memories!
Canadian one, is on flightradar24 now
Thanks for the positive ident TA. Since my previous post the Canadians have done Bournemouth proud with numerous circuits of the town plus flying back and forth along the clifftop. Bravo, what a treat, one pass off the seafront right over my roof. Thanks to the guys. We missed out during the Air Festival due to the engine change but they have made up for it today -with interest.
Single Lancaster just flew a circuit around Bournemouth, not sure which one!
Canberra escorted by two Hunters flying towards the west over the bay at Bournemouth at about 4.15 this afternoon. If the Sea Vixen made a farewell flight along the clifftop I managed to miss it……………..damn !
Sea Vixen performing impromptu display at Bournemouth this morning before the airshow started. Brilliant – thanks to the owners, what a treat.
Hi Folks,
Apologies if this does not exactly fit the ‘Historic Aviation’ template but – At mid-day today I spotted a single engined, high-winged aircraft (possibly a Cessna 172) fitted with floats flying East – West across the bay at Bournemouth, last seen disapearing over Poole Harbour. Can anyone confirm the type and where it came from and where it was going ?
Thanks Max
Thanks for the TriStar replies, real shame they are being scrapped. Can anyone shed any light on the Dove, it was landing in the middle of the afternoon last Thursday.
The Sea Vixen flew along the beach at Bournemouth this evening about 17.00. I was on the Eastcliff she made a slow pass west to east waving its wings. Georgous sight in the evening sunshine.
Hi Folks,
Where is the best place at Bournemouth to see this aircraft ?
