That is actually pretty amazing. Love to be in the engine room of that thing during full speed….!
Well, good luck with the flying circus!
How different is it right now!!!
It just means one fighter could be seen replacing another, but atleast there will be newer and upgraded ones taking up the roles.
It’s looks alright for IAF.
Really. Its more types then the USAF and they have almost 3 times the number of planes.
Good point. I dont know the basing locations of the MIGs.
It does lead me on to another point, if the LCA does indeed enter operational service and the MRCA is chosen as well, this will leave India with a hodge podge of many types of fighters doing very similar roles.
Assuming MIG-21/27 are retired, that still leaves
(Mirage 2000, MIG-29, LCA, SU-30MKI, MRCA winner)
5 types of jet fighter!!!!
Wow! That IS old!
like?
Good point, and how often will we have both carriers at sea ready for ops 24/7!?
Are there any articles specifying what the new radar is? From that pic it looks like the Podberezovik-ET1 on the superstructure.
What are they going to fly off it?
Best just make it a helicopter carrier I guess.
Launched in 1953. If she really does re-enter service she will be 57 years old. That has to make it the oldest warship in the world!!!??? 😮
Before I get torn apart by people on here, maybe, just maybe us using the Australian model of there armed forces may not be a bad idea?
Take out our nuke deterrent and there are alot of similaraties between us.
Both strong US allies, both Island nations, both contributing to US led expiditionary task forces.
How about we just have a fighter fleet of
100 JSFs (for the carriers and RAF)
100 Typhoon (Just for UK air defence)
Surely we can afford a toned down fleet of 200 fighter jets?
This way we can still contribute at least 1 sqd of JSF and 1 sqd of Typhoon to any future operation.
Have a similar MPA (P-8) and Sub (Astute instead of Collisn obviously)fleet, reduce Frigates and Destroyers and cut down the army to a similar size.
Yes, it means we no longer punch above our weight internationally, but it would allow us to retain some form of international presence.
Sell the Tornados to Iraq!? The ultimate irony…
Well, good luck with the subversion plan against 72 Longbows….
What will they do with the Tornado GR4s?
These are quite advanced strike planes and have life left in them.
No real danger of LCA intercepting enemy fighters down south I guess.
that link said they’re spending 60b over 10 yrs, so they are serious, what ever the plan
You are definately right. Just interesting that alot of the equipment is not really geared to an Iranian threat (bar the F-15s of course).
That was the orginal reason behind the deal I was led to believe.
Maybe they are forming their own “Air Mobile” Brigade?
This may be the perfect formation for fighting Yemani rebels!
All they really need to complement such a formation is heavy lift choppers.
